ME? Well, lets see...... my son’s 17 years old now, so MY first successful breeding was about 9 months before that. Although there were numerous failed attempts prior to that, so I’d say about 18-20 years?

what’s there to worry about anyway? next time after one of your females shed just toss a male in with her and make sure they’re both well fed b/4 the introduction, it’s a no-brainer, i oughta know.

Basically that is it. The only thing keeping captive snakes from breeding with each other is their keepers. Allow them the chance and they’ll take it from there! ;)

When you say you don’t brumate are you still providing heat as normal. Or do you remove the heat and just not cool them?

 FINALLY!!!!

I’ve never turned off my heat except when I had them in tanks with overhead lamps. I had them on a timer to turn on and off on a 12/12 hour cycle all year round. This year I moved mine to my basement where they did have the chance to brumate if they wanted. Over the winter the temps go down to 50-55 degrees there, but I still provided 90 degree heat at all times. Out of 12 of my snakes only 3 shut down. Both my pyros, and my one male Cali. Interesting note though, I keep my pyros in the same tub and my male only shut down for one month, where my female shut down for 4. Yet every time I checked on them they were both huddled together with him digesting properly and her not loosing weight.

It’s OK Amber, sometimes I have a warped sense of humor, so you can blame it on me. ;)

L.Roy do you do the same as Lampro or something different? I live in southern Florida and don’t know how that would work for me.

 FINALLY!!!!

hi,
from what i understand southern florida has a fine climate for breeding snakes and other reptiles.

this is how i operate my snakeroom,
in the winter i turn on the heat and in the summer i turn off the heat it basicly depends on the wall thermometer.
i like to keep my kingsnakes at high 70’s to low 80’s all year round.
i don’t brumate and they either breed or don’t.

i live in Oregon this simple system works for me, good luck in in florida you should’nt have any problems.

this guys parents mated in early jan. this year on a very cold day with snow outside, ofcourse it was nice and toasty in my snakeroom at the time.

Thanks. L.Roy and Lampro. have already had breeding success this year. But we brumated in a commercial fridge. Eggs in the incubator. more on the way. I was just curious if I could get away without brumation. We’ll probably try that next year. You haven’t seen me on here before but i’ve been hanging out in the background, Misce-FL is my wife (breeding partner)

L.ROY, have you been able to breed/produce clutches year round with your method and if so is there a time of year more productive than others?
Thanks, Ralph.

I have another one in the works right now too. Although I don’t know how succesful it will be. She’s MUCH larger than him, and she just flicks him away when he attempts a breeding. Kind of funny though, she outweighs him by about 325 grams and 15" in length, but she’s been running from him!!! LOL
