Talking about an Eastern obsession, I FINALLY got a copy of the paper that places Easterns in Pa. Basically it’s based on sightings and possilble viable habitat. NO actual specimens. One thing the author used as evidence was an Archeological movie made in Southern Lancaster County Pa. where a snake was caught on sight and filmed for 16 seconds. He said that he enlarged the film segment but still couldn’t make a conclusive ID. So, Easterns enhabiting Pa seem to be more a myth than actual proven fact. ;)

The closest specimen IS recorded about 8 miles south of the border. So, it’s not completely impossible for them to move up the drainage area into Pa. (he actually uses this in his argument) But, at this point, there’s no REAL proof they ever did. Even the state considers them extirpated.

Silence: Your from Lancaster County right? I could PM you the location of the Archeological site where they found that snake. Maybe you could find the rare and elusive Pa. King!!! LOL

None that I KNOW OF. He doesn’t state any type of fossils, just the inconclusive film specimen and another uncomfirmed sighting.

I actually looked for maps like that awhile back when researching the Blaney paper I believe it was, but I came up empty. I THINK it was Blaney who proposed that Cali Kings reached the Cape region during an Ice age when sea levels were much lower. I think this is also how they reached the islands in the Sea of Cortez, along with splendida along the opposite coast. Considering Easterns are more of a lower elevation species I’d THINK that they’d retreat rather than expand their range during an Ice age where sea levels would be lower and elevations higher in the northern part of the range. But, who knows? ;)
