why is it that so many people, i’ve noticed, feed their snakes while holding them? i’ve seen many pictures on here of people holding their snakes while they are eating. i would think that that would not only stress out the snake but pose a bite risk to the owner right? i don’t know. but if i did that with my kingsnake, opurtunistic feeder that he is, i would either get bit in the process or he would get stressed and refuse to eat. just curious

thanx

LOL! That was funny!

I’m not sure about the actual stress or such... With a couple of my real BITERS (my Vietnames Blue Beauty, my previous Taiwan Beauty), I would pick them up and return them to their cages after they’ve got more than half the mouse swallowed. They’ve never "stressed" or not finished eating - and I don’t get bit!. Even my corns and kings... if I’m holding them and they smell the mouse, they forget about me completely and go and grab the mouse (pre-killed of course). I don’t continue to hold them (just because "I can" doesn’t mean I do... LOL), but gently let them down. I’ve never had any problems with stressing out or not eating while doing this.

Perhaps with your snake, it’ll just take some time for it to get used to you "being around" while it eats. Because I’ve only got 8 snakes, I usually watch each of them eat. They know I’m there, but I try not to be too distracting or disturbing.

hi,
some snakes require more patience than others.
i had some:
cals
milks
N.American ratsnakes (obsoleta)
that never would do it.

eastern kings and good ol’ corns seem to adjust to it the best.

This reminds me of an interview with Mick Jagger, where the interviewer asked Mick why he only had beautiful women, and Mick said,"Because I can."

#1- If they were stressed, they wouldn’t do it, they’d regurge.
#2- They can’t bite you with a full mouth. ;)

I may eventually get to join the hand feeding club with Dotz, my little pyro. She is a vigorous feeder. Once she gets some size on her I may try seeing if she will take the food off my hand. She doesn’t mind if I watch her eat, she grabs the pinkie and gets right down to business.

Yes, that is Ducky (The Duck) He’s gotten to be a Big Boy at 7’. He’s pretty much dog-tame, BUT I always watch him as he has struck at me in the past and he has VERY respectable teeth.

i forget to get on this forum for a couple days and i lose touch.Thank you for the compliments on the corn.He is about 3 feet long now i think,we got him for free from someone that owned him for like 2 yrs from a baby and never any problems.I guess one day their son ot bit by him so they decided to be cruel.Instead of just giving it away or something they stopped feeding and appearently watering it causewhen we got him his dish was bone dry and he drank like a camel when we did give him water!!He hadnt eaten in almost 2 months!!!He has never even attempted to bite any of us,my 7 yr old girls love holding him cause he is the most calm out of all our snakes! They were feeding him in his tank and i think he was just hungry that day and they were also feeding him live.I have since converted him to f/t and apperently have spoiled him cause he will only eat rats now.lol He is our biggest snake so far but our high yellow brooksi Colombus is right behind him. He is onlother thats real calm,he likes rats too!

7 feet you say....hmmmmmm. how does Ducky feel about dog, say shitzu for example? A person across the street from me has decided that letting this annoying little mutt outside till 2 or 3 in the morning is allowed. I’m thinking a 7 foot long anaconda would seriously fix that problem.......... insert evil laughter here: wah ha ha ha ha!!!
