Scarlet King snake My son found this in the driveway last night. I have been reading some info on them, not really sure what to believe. Some sites say they are hard to keep in captivity & some say they are easy. IM gonna offer it a pinky this week & see if he will eat it. I know they also eat lizards ( which there are plenty here ) but, I would rather feed pinkies if he will take them.
Anyone have any experience on these snakes?

Scarlet King snake use ground skinks if you can find any or use 5 lined skinks. Freeze them then thaw one out and cut open the belly and rub the pinky in the gut "juices". This works for a lot of people. Try it with a live pinky first since the movement tends to attract their attention. You should also wash the pinky with unscented dove soap to remove the rodent smell so that it doesn’t conflict with the lizard smell.

Scarlet King snake Wow, that is a beautiful little snake! I wish I could find something like that, but around here I have found only rattlesnakes (not good pets) and my rescued from the cat Cali king.

Scarlet King snake First of all..keep it simple. Also give him a hide that has some humidity in it like damp sphagnum moss. After a day or three to settle in, offer him a f/t pink..If no response, then go with a live one (most of my wc took live right off the bat). Then if he does not take those offerings, try a local lizard..I’m thinking brown anole....Once you find the lizard he wants, either anole or skink, then use the scenting over method as mentioned above. I sometimes grind up a tail and rub it on a live pink, but have had good luck by placing the pink in the lizard’s mouth and coating with saliva..
Good luck.
