 A Perfect Shed

i knew my Cali king was fixing to shed any day now, as her skin got that dull look just before a shed, but her eyes hadn’t blued that I could see, and she ate last night. So when I came home from a town trip this afternoon and looked in her habitat I was quite surprised to see a perfect intact shed skin stretching from her hide to her water bowl!
This is her fourth shed since May 19, when I first got her. Her third shed was a tad difficult, coming off in first just her head, then in pieces off her body when I put her in a container with a little warm water to help her. This third difficult shed coincided with the advent of the dry summer months.
Since then I have given her a hide consisting of an inverted terracotta plant saucer with a small hole in the side on a plastic plant tray over her UTH, with a mound of slightly moist sphagnum moss inside. All my snakes get this, and they really like it. My climate is very low humidity on average. I credit this new system with facilitating her easier shed today. I started with these hides when I got my baby pyros, as it is recommended the pyros have slightly moist hides.
I examined her shed skin for signs of any ectoparasites; nary a one! I found one mite on one lizard a few months ago, and waged nuclear war on them! With my trusty microscope, these pests can’t get past me! I’ve never found any mites on her, but all my critters got treated and the habitats got treated and the whole cabin got treated; I really hate ticks, fleas, and mites! I bought a whole gallon of Reptile Relief, so as to always be well armed. All new critters get a Reptile Relief bath as part of their quarantine procedure.
Enough rambling...night all.

Congratulations! I love perfect sheds...I get them most of the time, but sometimes I have to help get the skin off of my milks head and tail. That moss is very helpful, I use it for my leopard geckos as well.

The terracotta saucer hide with the sphagnum moss in the plastic plant tray.

All shiny and new; photo just taken today. I just lifted off the terracotta saucer for this photo. I know it is just my imagination but she does seem to have a facial expression saying "What the heck?!"

Thanks, Candy_Corn!
She has come a long ways from the cat bit scruffy little thing I rescued May 19.

HaHaHa! The word I would have preferred to use is that
Famous Undeniably Crude Known post killer. At least at this polite little site. Some other sites, no holds barred! I don’t mind. I cuss too much as it is.
