 Easteren Spooted King Snake

I Cought a Female (spotted)king Snake about three months ago, well i didnt know she was fertile with eggs,i kept her for bout 2 weeks and couldnt get her to eat, later that week she laid 14 eggs, i still couldnt get her to eat so i set her free and kept the eggs because i felt bad bout capturing her, well just tonite the eggs have started to hatch,i would like to make these a pet but they seem way to small to eat pinky rats, does anyone have any suggestions on what i should start feeding them

ok, rat pinks are too big, try new born mice pinks, one thing tho F1s (first generation from wild caught) can be extremely hard to adjust ,it might be best to let them go in a large woodpile that has baby lizards. it’s you’re call.
here is a baby speckled

there’s 4 of them that seem to be OK with me handling them but the others seem to be very aggressive when i go to pick them up the rattle there tails and strike at anything moving,I’m not sure if it is because there hungry or there there wild, scince you know alot bout snakes and i am not all that sure, ive handled them not ever breed or keep any as a pet my dad was always scared of them, do u think i have a fighting chance with them taming and all

sure you have a chance, what i would do is seperate them into individual plastic shoeboxes with small water containers and pine or aspen substrate and WITH SECURE LIDS, leave them alone until after their first shed which will take about a week(don’t bug them all the time)then introduce tiny baby lizards to them. after you get them started on lizards let me know and i’ll help you convert them to tiny mouse pinks.
good luck, you have my utmost respect. anymore questions? i’ll be glad to help.

I would get rid of the pine cedar and just use paper towels, as pine cedar can be toxic to reptiles, but okay for rodents. Paper towels will tide them over until you can get some aspen shavings. Or you could use sphagnum moss which you can get at any plant nursery.
I’m sorry one of your babies died. It is hard when that happens.

Tina,
your set up looks good, sometimes with my babies i take a piece of brown paper bag wad it up in a ball and put it in with them they like to investigate it and hide in it, it cut’s down on their stress.
can you catch any baby lizards ?the smaller the better? after they shed i would try to feed baby lizards to them then lizard scented pinks.
let me know it goes, oh btw i use pine shavings for all my snakes and never had a problem with it.
pine is good-cedar is bad, good luck again.

OK i went and checked there is no cedar, all 100% pine shavings, i waded up some bags for them to play in they seem to be doing better just hate that the one died i am on the hunt for small lizards now, there not all that easily found they seem to be to be more scarce than the snakes lol when they get to where there is not much stress on them i will get some more good pics up and i would like to thank you all for helping me with all this you guys have been a real big big help for an under experienced snake lover like me. when i get this hurdle under my belt,i would like to get a few more snakes but until then i am reading and webing as much as i can to learn as much as i can so i can be the best mommy or handler for my new babies, heck i have 7 kids so i should be a quick learner

most newbs have a snake or two die it’s part of the experience. 2 years ago i had a gorgeous female pyro die, beats me why she died. she was doing fine then just died. it happens.
and don’t forget you can always let them go and then buy a nice well started corn, corns are real nice and easy to take care of.
good luck and keep in touch.

Don’t bother with bugs, but tiny mouse pinks might work ,i think lizards would be best tho, it’s your call.

ok, but remember the food items should be of about the same thickness as the baby snakes, think small, lol! and if you catch a gecko thats too big you can put it in the freezer for ahwile then cut parts from it(i know it sounds cruel but that’s how life is)
