Took in Snake for Friend, Has Mites - HELP Alright, so a friend of ours decided they could no longer care for their kingsnake, and we told them we’d take it for them and see what we can do. Well it turns out he has mites, and I want to be sure that we are doing everything we can for him. I’ve named him Fabious. (Fay-bee-us). Any suggestions?

Took in Snake for Friend, Has Mites - HELP I’ve heard "Reptile Relief" works great. I have yet to need it (knock on wood) but do have a few friends that swear by it. ;)

Took in Snake for Friend, Has Mites - HELP Reptile Relief is the best thing since the Internet! I use it on my lizards and whenever I get a new reptile I treat it with Reptile Relief, just as a precaution. You can put it directly on the animal. Try to not get it in their eyes, but if you do, it doesn’t seem to do any damage. Let it set on the animal for about 20 minutes then rinse it off. It kills the mites by dissolving their exoskeletons. It is easily obtained at any pet store, or online store. One time I found a mite on one of my lizards and I treated every single reptile, both lizards and snake, with thie Reptile Relief three times over a two week period and never saw another mite. I look for the little buggers with a handheld microscope! I don’t think my snake ever had any mites but even one mite on one lizard was too many for me!
Whatever the snake has been in needs to be thoroughly cleaned with soap and water, too, and throw out any things that can’t be washed. You can also spray the new bedding with Equate Bedding Spray from Walmart. This contains .50 permethrin, which once it airs out is non toxic to the reptiles but death on bugs. Don’t use it if you have crickets!

Some fun reading! Good luck with this poor snake; he needs a friend for sure!
