Compatibility of corns i have 2 cornstakes,i know this is the king forum but thought i would ask.One is little over 3 feet and about 1 1/2 inch around and the other is about 2 feet and not even an inch around,(well maybe an inch)my question is can i put them together to minimize space and just have them in the same tank?I have seen corns together but i mostly have kingsnakes and so i dont exactly know how a corn would react.I have been told yes and no so i thought i would just get everyones advice on here.i have a40 gallon locking lid critter cage(36x18x17).
thanks

It would probably be okay. Although you might want to get a glass tank so the snakes can have a heating pad or a light(assuming you don’t have either).

Compatibility of corns I wouldn’t take the chance. If the larger snake did not eat the smaller, he might dominate the enclosure to the point the smaller snake would not feel at ease. It is a hassle to have separate containers, but the only snakes I have seen together are boas, who are usually litter mates about the same size. I think garter snakes can be housed together, too. But corns , like kings, are dangerous to put together.

Compatibility of corns i have experimented with this and have found:
1.juvi corns do fine together if well fed
2.adult corns do fine in a group with only one male
3. two adult male corns can and will be sometimes combative i’ve never seen them hurt or kill each other but it sounds like they’re trying to tear their tub apart.

Are they all the same size? I would be afraid the big one would eat the little one. Snakes do weird things, and might get hungry before you realize it in time. I read about someone who had put some baby corns in a bucket temporarily while he sorted them, and one ate the other.
I wish I could put all my snakes together but then I’d have only one big fat one!LOL!

Compatibility of corns i have never heard or seen cannibalism in adult corns. but hungry baby corns have been known to do it.

Compatibility of corns Every picture I’ve seen and case I’ve heard of has always involved juvenile corns less than 3-4 months old. I very much doubt adults would enagge in canabalism. The one reason not to cohabitate that I can think of is if one corn is stressed by the presence of the other. Otherwise as long as both are disease/parasite free and they eat well.....................................

Compatibility of corns
i havent put them together yet as i have mixed opinions andall though corns are not my fav and kings are i still dont want them to eat one another.I didnt rescue them only to have one eat the other, lol. Which pic are you talking about LROY?I have been busy so i havent had time to do much of anything till today. I am having a hell of a time gettimg my mice to breed,on the other hand my rats are doing great.I have 3 snakes that WILL NOT take rats though so i need to get my mice breeding.Anyone have any clues as to why my mice keep eating there young? Also what ratio do you put together, the only tub that is doing real good for me is my 1:7 white mice,i have a 1:2 fancy/white and a 1:4 fancy and they either eat some and leave some or eat all???? thanks to all for your advice

I have a corn also it is not a good idea cause if one snake is sick the other one will get it too and if one is sick and throws up their food you can’t tell with one did it but all I was ever told never to house snakes together they don’t run in the wild together they always go their own way.

Compatibility of corns Mice will eat their young if disturbed. Cleaning the cage is enough of a disturbance to cause cannibalism. Keep a calendar of when your mice were mated, so you can know when to expect the young. A week or so before the young are due put the mamas in a maternity ward with no males but enough nest boxes for the two or three mamas in the ward, and DO NOT clean the ward, leave it be. It will not get all stunk up because there is no male to do the stinking up. I have just done this with my pregnant females. I gave them my big wire cage all freshly cleaned. I put the male and another new female in another cage. I also have two big females from another source which are reputed to be pregnant; they have groomed the hair off their nipples, a sign of impending delivery. They are also in their own maternity ward with no male.
I plan to extract a few pinkies with tongs ( to avoid leaving my scent) out of the nests once they are a couple days old, but leave one for the mama to raise. My plan is to raid the nest while the mama is out moving around. I’ve raised mice in the past and that has worked. The main thing is to not change anything in the maternity ward any more than absolutely necessary, such as stealing some pinkies when she is not looking!

Compatibility of corns oh, brother, brother, brother, why arn’t my mice that sensitive. today i changed out cage bottoms and had to handle about 150 pinks and fuzzes there was no problem. and i keep a male with 3-5 females at all times because. AND this is true: female mice go into heat immediatly after they give birth. gestation period is 3 weeks and baby mice are weaned in 3 weeks SO it makes for a continous cycle, STRANGE but TRUE,lol!!! i’m not kidding look it up,lol
