 California?

Hi, well I’m not big on snakes and don’t know much about them, I wanted to ask a question, are California King Snakes venomous?

No. They are constrictors; they kill their prey by grabbing it and wrapping around it and suffocating it. They do have tiny little teeth but no venom.

All king snakes are non-venomous. But be careful, since some kings have colors or actions that imitate poisonous species, like the coral snake. Don’t want to go picking up the wrong critter!

Coral snakes vs King snakes:

Red touch black, poison lack
Red touch yellow, kill a fellow.


If you can get close enough, you can look at the eyes. Non-poisonous snakes have round pupils like we do, but poisonous ones have verticle slits like that most evil of all creatures, the cat.

Yeah, that is sort of an ambiguous statement. I think what the author meant was only in reference to coral snakes and king snakes.
