 FL/Brooks?

I just bought what I thought was a young Florida kingsnake from the pet store I work at. I say "I thought" because the store just got another kingsnake in that is labeled a Brooks kingsnake, but looks exactly the same as the snake I just got. Are "Florida" and "Brooks" just different names for the same snake? I was under the imprecation that they were different species.

What I really need to know is if there are any special considerations I need to tend to for this snake apart from the husbandry of other kings like Californias and Bandeds, which I’ve successfully kept for quite a while now; higher humidity, a preferred substrate, basking spot vs. none, etc. Any information would be really helpful, lol.

Thanks in advance.

Basic king snake husbandry will work for this snake, although since it is one of the larger kings, plan your habitat accordingly.

brooksi and floridana are the same. Nomenclature did away with brooksi and they are all Florida kings now.

However some hobbiests wish to keep their specimans local specific (not something you will find in a pet store) do call S. Dade County (aka South Florida) kings Brooks Kings.

Here is a link for some other Florida kings
