 Feeding

My brother came home with a small mouse today for my snake. It looked about two times bigger then his widest part. It took him about five seconds to kill it even though it takes about thirty for him to kill a pinkie. After that, it took about ten minutes for him to eat it. It was a pretty good sized mouse and should last him through the week and part of next, but should I just get him one of those every ten-ish days or should I stick to one fuzzy every four days? I have a few pictures of him eating it, I just have to get them off my camera.

the best thing to do is to feed one appropriately sized mouse (as big or slightly bigger around than he is) every 7 days. does the place you get your feeders from have mouse hoppers? that’s a size between fuzzies and small mice, it might go by a different name at different stores. my king is currently on one hopper a week and growing like a weed. not sure what i’d do if that’s not an option...

mouse sizes can tend to vary...maybe ask for the smallest "small mouse" they have? if you’ve gotta choose between a small mouse every 10 days and a fuzzy every 4, i think the small mouse every ten days would be the better option. i feel like he’d be less hungry overall that way. plus that will give more time to handle him throughout the week. day 1: eat. day 2-3: digest. day 4-7: take him out to play once or twice.

the problem with too large of a meal is the possibility of a regurge. hopefully someone’s got some better advise than i do!

The one that my brother got for me was the smallest mouse they had. Other then that they only have tiny fuzzies.

was your snake able to keep his mouse down? not regurgitate, i mean. if he was able to handle that size meal, if i were you i might just continue with the smallest small mouse every 10-ish days. once he grows into the size of the mice (i.e. when the prey becomes "appropriately sized"), go to the normal once a week feeding schedule.

either that or maybe feed him two fuzzies at a time, once a week. i guess you’ll just have to make a judgement call with this one! not sure which choice would be best...judging by the picture, the mouse didn’t seem to be outrageously huge for your snake’s size although it’s hard to tell for certain.
