King snakes are cannibals...do not house any snake with it....you have much to learn.

Quote:

The most (in)famous snakes species when it comes to cannibalism are the King Snakes and the King Cobra. Both regularly make a meal of other snakes. All species of snakes however have to one extent or another a cannibalistic nature. 9 out of 10 times you’ll never see it manifest but at some point it will. It is simply not worth the risk when providing a cage for each snake is so inexpensive and simple.

Yes ...for a few years the 45 will be big enough. I live in Utah winters are very cold with snow outside on the property often. I use both ...a moon glo night lamp (75 watt) and a UTH (under tank heater).

I have a lamp dimmer that allows me to custom tailor the temps...I keep the hot side around 80-85 F and let the rest of the tank fall off naturally. I have a 40 breeder (36x18x18) with a large 4 foot king..2 hides and a large water dish.... Aspen bedding...

You can probe them to be absolutely sure ...buy a probe kit...watch some you tube videos...or have a vet teach you how ...they have probe kits in the office. The price they charge would be worth it if they let you do it hands on...
Another method is popping...more videos...

Or you can make a good guesstimate by looking at the tail ...an extra long tail with a couple of bulges left and right , just past the vent, with gradual taper will indicate male, more than likely....
A short stubby tail with no bulges after the vent will likely be female..the females tail will have a drop off just past the vent because there is no hemipenes to support the skin structure. Compared to a male which has a smooth taper.

Go to a good pet shop and ask someone to show you males and females...take pictures top ...bottom ...and side views

There are lots of pictures and tutorials about sexing snakes
