Some kid said he had one....

Hi. I’m usually on the mountain horned dragon forum, and when I saw this one, I thought I’d get on here and see if it was real cuz I didn’t think anyone would possibly have a komodo. Looks like I was right thank goodnedd, but let me share this story.
I work at a pet store. one day a few months ago we were out of crickets when this younger boy, probably about 16, maybe 17 years old comes in, and he asks me what else he could feed his lizard since we were out of crickets? I asked of course what kind of lizard he had, to which he repiled that he didn’t want to say. I told him I couldn’t accuratley tell him an answer if I didn’t know what it was, and he said it was... a komodo dragon... I asked him where in the world did he get that, and of course he said that he couldn’t say...I was so dumbstruck, both by the fact that this little dude might actually have a komodo dragon as a "pet", and by the fact that he thought it would actually be cool and fine to own one of them. I don’t remember what I even told him, I might have said either give it some superworms for now, but i also may have said "let it eat your cat or dog or little sister".
I really hope someone sold him like a nile monitor and told him it was a komodo, obviously that would not neccissarily be a whole lot better than a komodo dragon, especially since the kid didn’t know squat about reptiles. I know one can purchase just about any kind of poor, displaced animal nowadays, from a zebra to a tiger to a cobra, I just can’t see how that kid, or anyone, would be able to get ahold of a komodo, and I hope I am right in thinking that.

its is almost impossible for zoos to get ahold of one. let alone some kid. they are endangered and extremely dangerous. it IS impossible for a person to have one as a pet.

that’s what I thought, but the fact this kid thought he had one and that it was totally okay to have it makes me so angry. He only wants because it sounds cool, he didn’t care at all about how to care for it, or probably didn’t even stop to consider the implications of owning any sort of extremely large lizard. He shouln’t even be allowed to own an anole until he learns some pet keeping ethics.

here in hawaii 5-7 years ago there was a broadcast on our local news that a 6foot komodo was confinscated from someones garage...wether this sixteen year olds parents are dumb enough to let the kid have one or believe his lie that its a monitor of some sort is the question...it is doable to get them...and im in hawaii where most reptiles are illgal so how the dude here got one is beyond me...

i dont either b/c you cant own 1 anywhere (except zoos of course) in the world is what i heard. they are just too dangerous and what if you get 1 and decide you dont want it anymore.........also, they are protected.

yeah! if you were like ’Daddy Warbucks" or some1 like that. lol any1 can own zoo animals with the right amount of space (property) and money. this guy in Sac, Ca. , who owned a car dealership and lots od land, had a zoo with giraffs and a tiger and i dont know what else, but i know he had a zoo. i dont know what he did with it, b/c he didnt advertize to let ppl in, but it was in the news paper down there. i used to live there and know he was loaded!!!!

yeah it is almost imposible i had to try for months and years at a time before I could even get one, they all laughed in my face... no way this kid could own one, he was probably pulling your chain like kids often do.

When I lived in georgia my next door neibor had one. She had it in a room with bars on the windows and door. She feed it mice rats and chickens. It was the scarest thing, the noises that it made...she also feed it raw meat like steak.
