You cannot die from a captive raised komodo.

People are always saying, " why would you want to get a komodo, cuz if it bites you, you’ll die within 72 hours." But thats not true. Captive raised komodo’s ( i have no idea where ) are clean, its the rotting carrion in the wild that carrys the bacteria, which then passes on the the komodo after it eats the meat.

Although, even a captive raised one could kill you if it got a hold of you, and ripped you to shreds, if you couldnt escape. But by the lizard, not the bacteria. ( if the captive dragon didnt have any bacteria..which he wouldnt if you fed him fresh meat. )

fresh meat contains bacteria and deadly diseases to humans. you guys have no clue what you are talking about. captive ones are just as dangerous as wild ones.

yes all raw meat has that. handiling and getting in your bloodstream is two different things. i know i almost died of salmonilla poisioning when i was 4. salmonilla usually can go undetected in adult males but females and children are very much at risk.

look up raw meat and food related diseases.

buddy.

rezzy you do realize a bite from a captive bred human is still loaded with deadily bacteria and causes blood rot and other infections. monitors are worse because they have primitive venom glands and worse bacteria. it does not matter what a predator eats all of our mouths are dirty.

ok u guys quit arguing. look i say it depends on the size of your lizard and if u get away. if you get bit by a 10 foot komodo u probale going to die. it would be almost impossible to defeat an animal that size. now if justs clamps on and then lets go ur probable going to get infected if u dont receive medical treatment. now say a 5 ft komodo attacked u. there is a chance you will get away and recieve medical tention. so yes and no. you can die but then you may not. plus it depends on your size and your reflexes.

it depends a lot on your immune system. much like a bee sting. my fiance has more of a reaction to our monitor bites than i do.

Ill agree with the dog/cat bites...

Look on the CDC website, under cat bite or cat scratch fever. I know someone who was bitten by his cat whom was at one time and indoor/outdoor cat. He was very very very sick for 2 days, he went to the doctors to get the reaction as follows
"Im glad you came in on the second day, if not tomorrow someone may have found you lying in a ditch"
He had a cat bite fever infection, it can kill you in a few days.
In fact you dont know if any cat carries it, mine doesnt, why hes bitten me many times.

also shvar your immune system could be stronger. people all react differently to bacteria and poison. that is why medications and vaccinations don’t always work with some people. much like the problem i am having with stitches. the stitches do not disolve inside me and have to be removed though 90% of people have no problem disolving stitches.

just because you can get bacteria from a cat or a dog or a human you wont die in 72 hour’s and you wont die all the time also raw fresh chicken and carrion are different and carry different amounts of bacteria

exactly a captive bred human (in other words any born human not taken from the wild) it was meant as a joke about humans tied to the seriousness about the bacteria in our mouths.

Good point.

I read years ago that a bite from another human can be more dangerous than a bite froma dog.

Capitive Komodos may be fed on fresh meat, but they do not brush their teeth. So they will always have some particles of decaying, bacteria-filled meat in their mouths.

The infection a person might get from a captive Komoda would probably be much less severe than would be the case from a wild dragon with a mouth full of bacteria, and prompt medical attention with antibiotics might save the day. But this doesn’t mean the bite of a captive Komodo is nothing to be concerned about.

Besides, a big captive Komodo could easily tear a human apart. That would make the issue of bacteria a moot point.

In captivity a komodo dragon bite will be as leathal as a ackie’s venom wise, they are both feed fresh meat, the only difference is komodo’s have a few 100 times more bite preasure.

I don’t know why you are all arguing about this...is it helping or hurting someone in any way? And to the person that started this: Did you start it just to start an argument? If you wanted a freindly debate, thats one thing, but they way you started the conversation was rather acusing, don’t you think?
And if no one really has a pet Komodo, then there is really no point in arguing about it. YOu are not warning anyone about getting them as pets, because you can’t get them as pets. So stop the pointles arguing and see if you can have a mature debate. I see some people here trying to be civilized, but others are being outright mean!
