Someone needs to say it, so I will.
1) When asking for advice, there seems to be a lot of people impatient to hear something on their posts. I am one of them and I’m guilty of “bumping” my post back to the top of the list to get a response. A lot of us post on here to get sound advice from many people so that we can determine the best method for either caring for our Leo or caring for the Leo we will be getting. Therefore be patient. If you keep reading someone’s replies to other posts and you think their views would be useful to yourself, PM them and ask. I have and every single one of them has responded. Thanks ALL. 2) When actually replying to post, I do not believe that most of us that reply realize the age group of a lot of the people asking questions, seeking advice or needing the sound advice. Most of the “help” posts on here are Junior High or High School kids that do not need condescending advice, even if it is good advice. Their budgets are off of allowances, cutting the grass, paper routes or something else and they do not have full time jobs to devote to the care of their animals. Does this mean they should not get a pet they will cherish and care for and provide for the best that they can? Isn’t allowing kids to have pets a way to teach them responsibility and help them mature? And do you think they care less about their sick reptile if that is the case then us with full time jobs do? Besides how many adults on here could handle unexpected Leo medical expenses, especially if you believe you purchased a healthy leo? So why can’t we tailor our advice to be less condescending and more informative? 3) Deleted Posts: AKA Petsmart cruelty post for one. I for one applaud Doug for deleting the post, it was upsetting to many individuals. All that post was took the worst that Petsmart has done and over glorified the horrible details to get a public reaction. It does not matter the name of the store, pet store or otherwise, you will always have your good stores and your bad store. Completely boycotting one chain because what a store irrelevant to your location is practicing is like saying I won’t breathe air because cars pollute it. I mean I personally have been in 5 different Petsmarts and 4 different petco’s in two weeks. Petsmart is made out to be worse than it really is and if you have a problem with a specific location feel free to boycott them or bring the issue up with a manager and then their boss. Make them accountable in the public’s views! If it’s really bad call PETA or something else. But as for the deleted threads, Doug did what was needed and if it costs us a few upset forum viewers, then so be it. 4) Just reading posts, yes we can all sit back and read everyone’s posts and the responses back to the post. But everyone’s opinions are valid on a forum like this, if you don’t necessarily know if your thoughts are valid, you can always put a disclaimer I heard this or I read this someplace, can someone please verify for me. The more discussion that happens, the happier our little friends will be. We all want what is best for the animal correct? I hope that those reading this can see where I’m coming from and where my concerns lie. To many good advice givers are getting a little annoyed with the way the forum is going. I for one would believe the loss of this advice is far worse than some adds that are being deleted. |

A) Petsmart normally has a cat adoption area! B) Petco has an animal adoption area! Where would these pets that are founding loving homes go to without either one of those services? |

I dont like how if someone doesnt post a reply to ones thread they start using bold letters or using those devil faces. Its annoying, doing that is what will not get your post replied to. Chill. We dont all live on the internet, your post will get noticed in time. Also, people shouldnt say emergency when its no big deal. The word emergency should only be used in a life threatening situation, or something of the sort. Quote: We all want what is best for the animal correct?
Correct. People seeking information on this forum tend to get offensive when expierenced people will tell them the right, or better way to do certain things. Please, these are are expirenced people on here, and most of the time, they will give you good information. Quote: We are suppose to be having discussions on here not arguments.
Right on the money. Ive seen some pretty weird crap on RZ. People threatenting to put their gecko in the freezer, trolls, etc. Ah Yes! Trolls. Thats what I meant to talk about. Replying to trolls posts on previous threads or threads they start or absolutely not helping anything. Dont reply, because most of the time, trolls get under your skin, and you too might get out of hand, which for the most part will get you in some trouble too. Alls you need to do is report them to the Webmaster. Trolls are people with no lives and want to get a good laugh from our anger. Just wanted to add on to Eds Thread. Good Job! |

I agree for the most part, but I have to add to this section. Yes a lot of younger people own leopard geckos. Yes they come on here looking for advice. Let’s say a person under 15 comes on and says there’s something wrong with their leo. We tell them to take it to the vet. They say they don’t have the money and their parents won’t take them. This person is not capable of taking care of this animal and needs to find it a new home. If the parents cannot help, take responsibility, or do what needs to be done then their child CANNOT own an animal. It’s not the kid’s fault, but it is their responsibility to find a loving home where the animal can get ALL the care it needs. I will get rude if this person coming on to ask questions decides to not listen to the advice and argue instead. If you come into this forum asking for advice then who are you to argue with it? Quote: Besides how many adults on here could handle unexpected Leo medical expenses, especially if you believe you purchased a healthy leo?
This is where being a pessimistic person is a good thing. Every time you buy or rescue an animal you need to think about how much money you’d have to spare IF your animal does get sick. Also on this note you need to make sure there is a vet that knows how to diagnose and treat the specific animal you want to buy. If you have even the slightest twinge of doubt don’t buy the animal. I have 40 pets and 3 different vets that I take them to (different pets=different specialties). If needed my vets will put me on a payment plan. If there is ever a time where I think I won’t be able to take care of my animals if they get sick then they will be rehomed where the person knows how to and is capable of taking care of them. So, to answer your question EVERYBODY who owns a leo, or any other animal for that matter, should be able to afford the expenses. If not they need to find a new owner who can. As far as everybody responding to a post I agree......somewhat. If you are a newbie and don’t know the proper care yourself then please don’t answer somebody else’s question with a guess. I’ve seen it happen ENTIRELY too much where one newbie is listening to another newbie’s incorrect advice. I know there are people on here who can reply and fix this, but it does get annoying having to do it and it confuses the person asking the question. If you’ve actually researched and KNOW the answer (and can back it up) then fine, but don’t just throw some advice from the top of your head out there. |

This is the perfect example of what doesn’t need to be said. Sorry I agree with most of what you felt like you needed to add. I also agree about being responsible for your animals, it is very important. I respect that you have strong feelings on this too. So do I, but I choose to try to respond nicely. No one has to be rude or condemning when they reply to questions. If some one does not want to take your advice, and wants to argue. Then fine you tried to help, do not respond back. In all reality no one here can make any one else do anything. It is ultimately the owners decision to take the advice or not. I will be sad if an animal is suffering, but I still can not DO anything about it. I can still be nice when I respond to posts. Like " I hope that next time things will be different for you and your animal. Best of luck!" I do not have to respond with "I told you so, and now your animal died. See what you did!" This part I completely agree with and thank you for adding it in this thread. I am sorry if this makes any one mad or annoyed. A little common respect does go a long way in this world and in life. As for me personally if I ever offend anyone please PM me and I will talk to you about it. I will apologize when I am wrong. |

The book would be called research and nowhere on my post did I say you HAVE to be experienced.......you just have to be able to back your advice up which you obviously can. Just remember......not all books are correct. Anybody can write a book. Also, the publishing date makes a difference too. |

Quote: Hey I’ve been here for a couple years now, and have also found that many people post before they search. The search button is a great tool and many questions have already been answered. I left because I was tired of answering the same question again and again.
the hole point of this place is to get answers, so if you dont like answering the questions over and over dont, I’m sure someone else will and maybe the people did do a search to find out but come on here to find out if what they found searching is true and to get different opinions on the matter. |
