I don’t know why everyone insists that Leopard Geckos eat Pink Mice/Mice. They key word in their diet is insectivors. Meaning that they are not designed to digest cartilidge (which is what a Pink Mouse is mainly made of), bones, and hair/fur. Nor can they digest Veggies/Greens (Wasn’t the main concern, just thought I’d throw that in there as well). The only prey items you can feed a Leopard Gecko is Crickets, Silkworms, Superworms, Discoud Roaches, and Mealworms. The point is, they are insectivors, and nothing else.

Just because someone works at a Zoo doesn’t mean the information is always going to be 100% accurate.

Anyway, you have a very nice gecko, and would hate to see anything happen to her because of a simple mistake that can be easily avoided.

I also noticed that she has some left over skin on the tips of her toes. You could remove this by either placing her in a sink of luke warm water up to her elbows. Or you could take a wet Q-Tip and gently rub it on the place where the skin was unsuccesfully taken off. Make sure you always provide a humid hide to aid the gecko in shedding.

Just because she will eat them doesn’t mean she should.
Can I eat a McDonald’s Cheeseburger? Yes. Is it good for my health. No.

Don’t expect any nice responses after that comment.

Small mice and pinkies can give a leo two things: One is septic bowel from impaction, where the bones of the mouse (especially a fuzzy) would lodge in the gut of the leo and tear things open. The second, which is far more common, is Fatty Liver Disease. Pinkies are mostly all fat and little in the way of nutrition. They’re sometimes given to pregnant females once every month or two, but that’s only to keep weight up from the egg laying. If you feed too many too often, the fat and junk in the pinky will lead to obesity, which will then lead to the liver getting trashed from trying to filter too much of it. After that the liver is damaged or shuts down, the leo has toxins running loose in its body, and it dies a rather terrible death.

Think of a pinky as five BigMacs in a SuperSized meal at McD’s. If you eat five BigMacs every day and that’s all you eat, you’re going to get very sick, fat, and may die from internal complications. The same thing happens with pinkies, waxworms, and other fatty foods. Like BigMacs to people, a leo will like it because it tastes good. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good for the leo, though.

We have had deaths from excessive pinky/fuzzy consumption on the leo forum in the far past. Those people thought they were doing fine as well and didn’t know any better. Only one person caught it in time, stopped, and their leo lived with only minor liver damage. The rest died from FLD or septic bowel.

A proper diet for a leo would be soft-bodied insects. Some good choices would be roaches, silkworms, and superworms (though supers can be fatty if fed too much). Other insects on the market that are fine are crickets and mealworms. Avoid Giant Mealworms.

You can try feeding Silkworms or upgrade to a bigger tank.

Those are my setups.

Ok, I know you said put te pinkie thing aside, and that your zoo freind said to feed her pinkies. it is true that some people feed pinkies with supposedly know problem, but in the long runn it will DEFINATLY catch up. Crickets and mealies are fine, the nices possible thing you can do is simply stop buying/feeding pinkies. I will drop the subject on that note, and hope that you greatly consider what I have said.

its ok for leopard geckos teo eat pinkies but only one, and they should really only be fed during a pregnancy or after maybe its just after but anyways its ok to occasionally feed them but only one two max a year not two in a row but two spread out by months
