 Anyone have experience rescuing iguanas??

I have a two year old iguana who is suffering from low calcium. I followed all the suggestions out there on raising him and he has been a great pet to have. Recently he is showing beggining signs of MBD. He has always been great handling becasue i have handled him frequently because i wanted him to be good with it. I am doing the best i can now supplementing him with calcium, but i would hate to see him go based on my inexperience. If there is anyone who is interested in adopting him and bringing him back to good health please contact me. I am from the chicago area, but am willing to travel if it means getting him the right health.

Also i am looking for information on rescuing him myself so either bit of information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot

I just have to say that you are being very responsible giving this iguana to a good home, and giving it the best possible. You understand that you cannot care for it, and instead of dumping it into the wild or letting it die because you get tired of caring for it if it just is getting sicker, you are trying to find it a home. If only all iguana owners would do that.

I have about 6 years experience with iguanas and have raised mine back to full health when he had calcium deposits. However, I wish I could help you by taking him off of your hands and helping him out a bit but I can’t since I’m limited to a two bedroom apartment which is already filled with animals.I can however, help you out with some tips for the time being.

Are there any lacerations on his deposits? If there are, soak him in a tub of unflavored pedialite and rub some neosporin(no pain relievers) on the cuts.

Also, do you coat his food with reptile calcium? Try "Flukers Repta Calcium" or "Zoo Med Repti-Calcium with D3" on his food and some calcium spray on him. You can find the powder at www.lllreptile.com
Here’s the Zoo Med:

Good luck on getting him adopted or healthy!
