 The falling Of hannibal

I would like to thank everyone that has been patient with me and has tried to help me along the way with my 1st snake. I had reportly asked about what I should do about him not eating and many gave me suggestions and I followed through with it with no sucess but I tried and do what you said be patient, well he was getting thin, he was like thinner than a pencil and his skin looked like he was a wrinkled old person, so I got scared and very worried because even though I only had him for a month I really loved him. Anyways I told the pet store whereI bought him (PetLand Discount) about it and they told me to bring him in and I did, thinking since they acted like they knew what they were saying, I bring my baby there and they squeezed him bit and said that yes he was indeed thin but VERY strong still (you know how you would put pressure on a swoolen leg or arm to see how deep it is that was what was done to him), anyways they tried to feed him with a cricket 1st and he was so scared and was trying to run from it, then they tried with a tiny lizard and he went at it bite the leg and let go then that same lizard was walking over him, when they saw this they decided to see if he would eat a pinkie which by now we all know he didn’t, that was when his falling came, they forced fed him a pinkie and he looked pale and was asping for air I asked if that was normal and they said yes, mind you I was trusting these ppl with my snake because they claimed they were thought how to do these things, he looked really scared and paled and his neck was super thin, they had squeezed the pinkie almost all the way to his behind and I asked again is he ok will he die and they said no, foolish me I believed it and went home thinking at last my baby was going to be ok, not even 15 minutes from leaving that store did I discover that my baby was dead! I cried like a baby and my fiancee saw that he got angry called them told them off anf they told him to bring the snake to them. He did and they told him that they were very sorry that they were trying ti save his life and gave me another snake(this was the orignal one that I was going to buy till I saw hannibal) I am glad that they replace me with another snake but am sad that I lost Hannibal especially the way that he died, i’d rather he starved to death then go through that torture that he did because that must have been what it was to him. I am so sorry for not being more patient like you all said but he was getting thinner and thinner and I was very worried....but with what happened I have learned that I will do better following your advices then to EVER GO BACK TO THAT STORE OR ANY PET SHOP FOR HELP! They were sorry and replace it and I am grateful for that...but why did a poor snake have to die? I now have a mexican black king snake who is almost as long as a 10 gallon tank, he is thick and he moves all over the tank and tries to bury himself, something that Hannibal never did not ever and I was informed that milksnakes like to do that. I am only guessing maybe he was sick all along I have no idea other then that. I am sorry that i wrote so much just wanted to keep those that have been so helpful to me know what has happened to him, I am hoping that when i goto the show that i see another one and take it home with me but this time I think I don’t want it so small. Thanks

I’m so sorry that happened, sometimes it is dificult to know whether to be patient and wait it out or get the animal checked out. I had the oppisite experience, I had a snake that was sick (bronte) and waited it out and attempted to treat her myself, and finally took her to the vet but it was too late and she died anyway. The pet store reluctantly replaced her with Bach. I felt guilty even though the vet assured me that she would have died anyway beacause it appeared that she had a parisite. Good luck with your next baby!

That is so horrible!!! I wish you the best of luck with your new one. Sometimes they sell snakes in such poor health and nothing you can do can prevent it not eating or getting sicker. Poor Hannibal!

That’s a pretty MBK, you should show it off in the kings, too!

I must tell you most pet stores know notheing about animals and it is really sad. I never let them do anything with my pets. Nevertheless, I am truly very sorry about your snkae and know how you feel.
