Corn snakes and milk snakes (Sinaloan or Nelson’s) are very good first time snakes since they don’t get too big and have good dispositions. Just do an internet search on care sheets for these snakes. Good luck.

i to would perfer nelsons since i have one but they can get 5 feet but yet very docile. The pueblan can start off a little nippy but will tame down alot. and they get 3-4 feet yet ialso have an imperal pueblan.

hey peter how big do you think my imperal get? right now its 1 year old eating small adult mice and 34 inches.

I am like everyone here ,Milks, because of their bright colors and medium size (Peublan,Sinaloan,Nelson). They seem to have that high glossy shinny look.I wanted the larger milk, so I have the Hondurans and I now have 2 Black Milks.

Out of my own experience I would say, and I’m not criticizing anyone or disagreeing, don’t get a milk snake. Get a corn snake. They come in many colours are very docile and make excellent pets. Milks are essentially the snake except for two things. They smell and they can musk. Now I’m not saying you should be put off, but it becomes annpoying whenever you pick up a snake and you get covered in sticky stink. My advice is to get a corn snake for sure.

I think a corn snake or a milk snake would be the best first snake. I own both. I like the milk snake the best. The only thing about the milk snakes is the will musk if they spook. But they stop doing usually once they are tame.

I own 7 hondurans and 2 blacks and I have never been musked, and when I lost my tangerine for 2 months all I got out of it when I found it was a angery bite and she held on for about 3 minutes, but I was never musked, some do some don’t.I say to each his or her own,get what you want, for in the end you got to live with it.I guess if I didn’t catch corns left and right as a child,I might think different, man that makes me old,now days I would be lucky to find one a years in the wild

I’ve heard from almost every person I’ve met who has experience with both corns and house snakes that house snakes are better for first time snake owners. They have great appetites and aren’t picky eaters at all. They do have bigger teeth though, so if they were to bite, they’d probably draw blood. But they are also said to be very docile. And I personally think they are prettier that corns and milks(no offense to anyone). Kenyan sand boas are also good. Very docile, they’re like big worms, and again, I think they are prettier than corns and milks
