Pueblan Milk Snakes?
I know the care sheets are great for information, but I want to know about people’s personal experiences with the snakes so I can get a good idea if one is right for me. Are they friendly? Do they tend to be more defensive? They are just so pretty, I would love to know if you guys could give some input. |

I definitely oppose to what Grogasilver says about Pueblans and Hondurans. I have owned a lot of Pueblans and yes, they are very skiddish - when young, but so are just about any of the 25 subspecies to the milksnake species. An adult Pueblan is no problem to handle, they are as calm as any other milksnake. Hondurans used to be the hardest to handle milks, but nowadays after many generations of CB, they have become easier handled and much better tempered than they were when I started with milksnakes back in the early 80ies. Also, Pueblans are considerably smaller when fully grown compared to Hondurans. Pueblans rarely exceed 42 inches, while Hondurans grow to 64 inches easily. In my experience there is no big difference at all in behaviour and temper between the handful of milksnake subspecies that are bred in large numbers. You will be happy with a Pueblan or a Honduran aswell as a Sinaloan, a Nelsons, a Stuarts or a Mexican milksnake. They are all nice tempered and easy going snakes. The choice is yours to make. |

Well, there will always be one or two milksnakes or kingsnakes that never get calm enough to handle, but they are exceptions to the rule - adult captive milksnakes and kingsnakes usually are very easy to handle. However, no offense, but I would definitely argue that you are trying too hard! Let the snakes be alone for longer periods, I handle my milksnakes once a month max and they all turn out fine when they get older. Also to my experience, angry and aggressive adult milks and kings are, if not wild caught, usually either mistreated earlier or hungry/underfed.
