 New Snake

I just got my first snake a little over a week ago. At first handling him was fine, I’m not sure how old he is, he (at the time) was about 10inch, now hes almost 12, growing fast! But he’s become more nervous and flighty. Its hard for me to pick him up and when i do he’s so fast he just goes back in his tank.
Am i doing something wrong? Will he grow out of it and become more calm and docile like he was a week ago or should i continue to handle him and hope he becomes calmer?

also, should i switch tanks when feeding him or is it OK to feed him in his tank? I keep getting mixed answers.

if it is 12 inches you got a hatchling, any where from a month to 5 months, most likely around 5 months, mine are now 24 inches at 8 months and they are still a little jumpy, when you pick it up let it slip thru you hands dont hold it,milks like to move around, let it keep slipping thru you fingers,it will get used to you,as they get older, they do mellow out.My adults dont like to be held tight, they like to move thru my hands. They are not like boas and pythons that just sit around, milks like to move and after awhile the’ll mellow out and still move around ,but slow down so you can hold them
