I take it I asked the wrong question...

2 people have ALWAYS helped/answered whenever I had any a question. Neither one responded to my question on my other thread. Can I just ask why? Since I am not going to own a snake anymore, am I no longer worth the time of a few short sentences. A simple idk would have at least been sociable and courteous. In stead, I feel like I was stupid to think you were website friends. It’s funny how I can feel like crap over such a simple thing.
Anyway thanks for all the help, before I apparently did something wrong. I couldn’t have done it with out your help...
Thanks Candy_corn for your guess at a price. It was greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the message, I wasn’t meaning any one who didn’t know Me. When I got my snake, there were 2 people that helped me a lot. I seriously would not have done as well with Casie as I have, with out their help. Every time I have ever gone on the site (which was a lot at first, then just every once in a while cause things get so busy, but always, always, always, they helped out. This is the ONLY time they haven’t, and both have answered threads after mine. So.... I know there is something wrong, but not sure what. Anyway, I am not saying this site is bad. It was a great help, I was just wondering why the change in not answering my thread. I feel like a kid who is getting the silent treatment and don’t know why. That’s all. Sorry.
Have a good day, it is beautiful in MN today, but supposed to be a snow storm on Friday. That’s MN.

Hi, Sandy

I haven’t been on the milksnakes since I replied the other day. I don’t come here much because it is a very DEAD forum..lol. Sometimes I’ll go on here and the same question is still up with no answer for a couple days. Don’t take it personally, I’ve gone without responses as well. Some other forums, such as kingsnake dot com, or reptastic dot com, or a new one reptile geeks dot com may have a quicker answer for you. I don’t know much about Hondurans, and yours is darker than most, so I don’t know Casie’s worth. I would try to add a little for what you paid for Casie and go a little less on what you paid for the tank, add a little for the accessories and take it from there.

Good luck :)

sure glad I talked to you on yahoo, and I would dearly love to have Casie, but with shipping around 75 dollars ,I do feel for you.I have those 4 hatchlings,I just gave away the tangerine to cut down on my cost,my other 3 are eating rat pinkies, but my tangerine was still on mice fuzzies. The girl I gave it to really wanted it but couldn’t get the whole price,so I just made her day.I can’t sell them around here,I even went down to 100 a snake and still couldn’t sell them.I’ll keep trying to sell them,if not 6 is still a good number +2 blacks, if it was not for breeding rats,I would probably have to cut down more.

Where on yahoo?
Anyway, you didn’t know what I would have offered him to you for. Maybe it would have been to only pay for shipping.
You missed out... that is what I was going to do, but now I decided I need the money. Sorry, you let me have too much time to think about it...
Who knows, maybe I will put him in my craft room and keep him. I am not 100% sure yet on selling him.
Good luck with getting your last babies new homes...

I’m on the other side of the great water and my advice might not be compatible to the U.S. market. It looks like a pretty old Honduran, and over here that would bring the price down some, maybe to the equivalent of about $120 or so.

I’ll take all the advice I can cause at least I have something to go by. I am still not 100% on selling. My husband wants me to but he would be ok just moving him to another room. No other room really has the space either, but maybe I can do some rearranging. How often do you hold your snakes. My concern is that Casie won’t get held enough, and not stay tame. Anyway I’ll have to decide some time soon.
Thanks for the info...

Sandy
I hold my snakes very little in comparizon to many others here. Somewhere around 4 to 10 times a year I would guess. I’m absolutely convinced that handling very often does not help when it comes to making the snake easier to handle, on the contrary I think it makes the snake more stressed out and harder to handle.

I recently visited a local school, first grade class, to show a couple of snakes and tell the kids a little about them. I brought my largest sinaloan milk, he’s 62 inches, 3 lbs in weight. That snake is a dream to handle and I can easily put him in the hands of a 3 year old child. I also brought a juvenile Cali king born last summer. I have been handling that snake twice before and I was a bit unsure of just how she would react. However it went absolutely splendid, she kept calm and didn’t musk or bite during the whole hour I had her in my hand, just moved round my fingers every now and then.

I agree with Peter on the handling topic. The only reptiles I hold on a regular basis are my bearded dragons. I have a Sinaloan milk snake that I purchased back in December. They had her out a lot at the shop and she was very jumpy. We got her home and other than tank cleanings and taking her out to put paper towels in her tank so she can eat she stays in her cage and is so easy to handle now. As long as you have enough time to feed & water your snake and keep the cage clean you can keep him. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

Brook

That makes me feel better. I thought I was neglecting him holding him about 1-2 times a week. I thought that if you hold them they get used to it and won’t bite. What about the biting part?
As for the water and keeping the tank clean, thats is no problem, that is the easy part.
Thanks for the info.
I’ll keep you informed if I keep him or not. I haven’t talk to Glen about it in awhile so if he doesn’t bring it up, niether will I.

I have kept milksnakes and kingsnakes since the early 80ies and I can honestly say that I have never once got bit by either milksnakes or kingsnakes other than small juveniles. I’m with Brook on this, keep your snake.

My husband mentioned it today, and we never got to an answer on if I will sell it or not. He is trying to bribe me. If I just don’t mention it for awhile again, I am hoping that he will think I won’t sell him. Maybe I will win this one...
Even if I find a better place for him to be in the house it would make a big difference. Glen wouldn’t see him all the time. If I would put Casie in the basement, how much light do they need? That is where my craft room is, but will it be good for a snake because of the lighting being so poor?
Maybe he could take having a snake if it is out of his sight.
Let me know about the basement if you have a chance.
Thanks!
Sandy

Poor light should not be a problem for a nocturnal snake. I use low energy lamps 12 volts, 10 watt for my snakes. However I do take them outside a couple of times every summer so they get a little sunlight. I don’t think that is really necessary, but I have seen during the years that this helps them keep their color better as they grow older.

When you take them outside, are they tank? If not, how do you keep them from getting away. Casie would be gone in a minute.

If you hold on to them, or just be close by if you put them down, they won’t get away. Unless you turn your back...then they’ll be gone in a second.

Usually I hold them in my hands, but the larger milksnakes sometimes get to climb a small peartree we have near the house. This pic shows my large male sinaloan in that tree.

Would it be harder for them to get away from the tree than the ground? Maybe I will try a tree.
Guess what? I said something to Glen today "Casie can be in the basement and that way I could keep him" and his answer was well, he seems to be the perfect pect... I think he is changing his mind on having me get rid of him. YAHOO!

I want you to know, I was holding my breath,so that you would get to keep him,to me they are more than a pet. and I’m like Peter,a small light on to see him or a fluorescent light on top, would be enough and I do the same thing,I put my Hondurans in our plum tree and let them slide around in it,the do like it in the evening when its not too hot and they like to sun them selves.hurray I ’m so happy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!
