Good, secure tub for a 5-month old black milk?

I plan on getting a 5-month old male black milk soon. He’s about 10".
I was going to get a small tank, but was recommended to go with a small tub. Would this work well?

I don’t know if it’s secure enough, I know these guys are notorious escape
artists. I like it though, because it’s completely clear, which should make
viewing/lighting easier.

I was also recommended the following tub:

This one should be more secure (though, still probably not secure enough),
though it has an odd shape, and the top isn’t clear, so I couldn’t use
overhead lighting. I definitely need some sort of lighting, because the
little guy’s gonna be kept in my room, which has very little natural
lighting. Oh, and any tips on good lighting for a tub?

One of the problems is, I’m having trouble finding tubs in single quantities
for sale online. Most are packs of 6 or 12. And shipping is a lot. Any
places with good single prices, or good local stores I should check out?

The number one thing is that the tub is absolutely secure, as the only
condition I have for getting a snake is that he NEVER gets out. My
grandma says he has to go if she ever sees him anywhere other than in my room.
Oh, and finally, how long would something this size probably be good for?

Thanks guys! I’ll post pics as soon as I get ’em.

I have 2 blacks and they were hatched out in 07,they are about 24 inches and eating rat pinkies.I keep them in a 10 gallon tank and I made my own lids out of bug screen and 2 by 1 wood trim.I cut it tight enough for a tight fit.All the light I have is thru the windowand the room light

this is a lid I made for my 29 gallon tank,I kept a 5 ft boa in it and he never pushed it off,I like my tanks so I can see them

I used to use tanks, but then I got a rack, and switched to tubs. I like tubs much better. I use office clips from Staples or Walmart on the sides to keep them secure. Some like to use bungee straps across the top as well. I like tubs b/c they are easier to clean and they are much more inexpensive than glass tanks. I don’t have room for a lot of tanks, so it is convenient for me to use tubs.

The only con with tubs is you don’t really have a display tank that lots of people like to have. Because I have 12 snakes, the cost of tanks wouldn’t be economical. I also like the benefits of the tubs holding in heat and humidity better, and they won’t rub their heads raw on the screen tops. I just found them to be better for me, not saying they aren’t better for others, b/c some people hate tubs.

You always want to be sure the tub size is 2/3rds the length of your snake’s body. Right now all of my large snakes are in a 64 or 41 qt Sterilite tub. If you like a clearer, less opaque tub, Iris tubs are great, too, and they are sold at Staples. Sterilites are found at Walmart and Target for $5 to $12 for the various sizes. I use uth’s for my tubs that aren’t in my racks hooked to a light dimmer.

My small snakes that are around the size of yours are in 15 qt tubs. As they grow, I move them up to a 28qt, or 32qt. Then when they reach 3 feet, they go to a 41qt. In my opinion, I wouldn’t use a light with a tub. I think it could be a fire hazard. Is your room very dark? I would recommend opening the blinds during the day, I’m sure they’ll get enough light this way.

Good luck, and congratulations on your black milk!
