I just recently bought a Honduran. Its not my first milk snake but it is my first Honduran. He is grown and from what the previous owner told me he is 4ft long. I take it that is grown. Anyone mind telling me a little more about these? Its not my first snake but it never hurts to ask advice and tips from others.

It’s a mature snake, but not a full grown Honduran. They grow to 60 inches or more.

Ah, I see. What would be a proper set up for this snake? Aspen shavings is what Im useing at the momment, and moist hide is available for him. What size of tank is best suited for them? Are they strictly ground dwelling or do they enjoy a few branchs to play on ever so often? What temps should I keep him at? Right now its Hot spot of 80 and 70 at night.

hey I got 6 now,1 male and 5 females.3 of them are adults,my 2 females are almost 6 ft,but my male is only 48 inches. my hatchlings are over 24 inches now.I also have 2 black milks at 24 inches.I use aspen shavens also.I have a large water bowl in each tank and I keep the warm side at 83 deg and the cool side at room temp.No special lighting, just the light from the window and the light from the room. You’ll find out they are aggressive eaters,It’s not a bad thing, when mine are ready to eat,my females will grab the juvie rat(I only feed f/t,fresh killed or stunned) by that, they will snatch it out of my fingers, other than that they are sweet never been bit or musked.my adults hiss when they smell another snake now.

what color? you’ll love it,I think they are the best next to the pueblans in color...

It sounds like you have pretty much everything in control, you need it about 80 in the hot end and about 70-76 in the cool end and at night you need it around 70-75 degrees. I think aspen is the best bedding for kings and milks,(and most colubrids). For caging I suggest tubs, they are good to maintain right temperature and humidity. But if you dont have any tubs or dont want to keep your snake in a tub its fine to use a glass aquarium to, as long as you can keep the right humudity in it because lots of people have had problems with humidity in glass tanks. As far as cage ornaments it is watever you prefer really, I have a small treebranch in my baby nelsons milk snake tank but it dosnt really matter if you put something in there like that tho, most of the time its mainly just for looks.
Hope this helps dude and good luck with your hondo.

oh yeh if you do use a glass aquarium I suggest a 40 gallon or a 30 gallon tank. And to tell you the truth I havnt kept my snakes in tubs that much about the quarts and how much quarts = what size tub, and anyway if you get a tub just make sure your snakes have enough room to move around and that the length of the tub is atleast 3 quarters of your snakes body length.
Hope this helps AGAIN,lol

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. They are very helpful. I have both an aquarium (30gallon) and tubs as options. I haven’t used tubs in some time cause my boas have grown out of them. But I still have them put up in the shed. I think I will use the glass tank however. I have a special lid that is non screened. So it holds in humidity just fine. Its a wood top with a few drilled air holes. I use that kind for all my glass tanks. He is being shipped to me Monday for Tuesday delivery, I will take pictures for everyone when I get him.

Also thank you for sharing pictures of your snakes they are gorgeous.
