 Hey Alligater

Is "tangerine" a simple recessive trait in the hondurans? Was considering breeding a tri-colored "normal" to a tangerine. Do I get normals het for tangerine?

 Hey Alligater

I have several adult friends from Honduras and they kill the tangerine (red, orange and black) and the tri colors (red, yellow and black) in the wild, because, they resemble the true coral snake. It is when you cross breed or get one with a recessive gene and hammer on it to get the ghost and albinos. When I bred my tangerines, I got two ghost, one bi and a regular tangerine. Now that tangerine carries that recessive gene, which makes it a hypo and when you mate her you will now get a ghost or possibly a albino or something new or different patters on them or a regular tangerine. If you have a pure, you’ll get a pure. I’m trying to breed my male tangerine and my tri to see what I get.If he is a regular tangerine and she is a regular tri,I will get a normal set of snakes.thats the way I see it and read it and talked to different breeders..

 Hey Alligater

If the tri-color carry the tangerine gene you will probably get a mixed clutch. If it’s a pure tri-color you will probably get a bunch of tri-colors het for tangerine as you say.
