 Scarlet King snake

My son found this in the driveway last night. I have been reading some info on them, not really sure what to believe. Some sites say they are hard to keep in captivity & some say they are easy. IM gonna offer it a pinky this week & see if he will eat it. I know they also eat lizards ( which there are plenty here ) but, I would rather feed pinkies if he will take them.
Anyone have any experience on these snakes?

I don’t have experience with scarlet kings..but they are beautiful! Good luck, and you might want to put this thread over on the kingsnakes forum as well, you may get another opinion over there.

Nice king :)

Be careful. Wild snakes tend to do poorly in captivity do to the huge amount of stress. They usually die.

Hi, If you live where you can get lizards they do well eating them. The snake looks pretty small they usually eat lizards, but many will eat pinkies. I would not wait 2 weeks to try the pinkies. I would try the pinkie first, if he eats it stick with pinkies, if not lizards are ok if you can get a steady supply. I have had many scarlet kings some eat only lizards and some eat both. I had a pair for over 10 years the male ate only lizards the female would eat both. They were wild caught and did extremely well in captivity for years. I did not handle them much they were kept in large terrariums. They bred and produced eggs for many years. The female became egg bound and died a couple of years ago. I released the male in my backyard.
