Pueblan Milk Snake Wont Come Out of Hide! Hi, my Pueblan hasn’t eaten in about two weeks since I’ve gotten him. He is now getting used to hanging out with me for about 30mins-an hr each day, up until 3 days ago. Hes been in the hide for three whole days. I’m a new snake owner-- I’m worried that i need to try and feed him again. Is it common for them to stay in there hide for a long time. I mean I haven’t even seen him come out for water. I’m kinda worried. When I look at him in the hide he pops his head up so I know hes ok but still. Is this natural? I dont want to remove him from the hide cause i dont think that would make him feel comfortable, he might just get stressed out--so ive been waiting for him to come out. Anyone experience this? Any feedback would ease my mind.

Pueblan Milk Snake Wont Come Out of Hide! So, you got him 2 weeks ago? Did you let him settle in for a week or so before you started handling him? If he’s not eating then you need to not handle him at all. The only time you should be putting your hands in there is to change the water, spot clean, and to feed. When he starts eating regularly you can start handling him again.
I have snakes that will stay in their hides during most of their shedding process. I have others that are out every night without fail. Your snake may be stressed and got smart enough to figure out that he won’t be handled if he stays in his hide. Doubtful, but it could happen.
Just keep the handling to a minimum until you get him feeding consistently. Good luck!

Pueblan Milk Snake Wont Come Out of Hide! Yeah I let him settle in a few days before handling him. When I would handle him it would be because he seemed very awake and tired of being in the cage he would stretch himself up to the top of the cage, I would then open the cage up and gently hold him its like he did all the work and would slide out the cage almost like he wanted to be held. So, sorta I never felt like any time that I held him that he didn’t really wana be held. So I feel like a little stumped as to why hes hiding so much. I didnt over hold him. That Im sure of. I always waited for him to get in that active mood before taking him out. To feed him Should i remove him from his hide, place him in a separate bucket and feed him? It just seems so intrusive to completely remove him from his hide.

Pueblan Milk Snake Wont Come Out of Hide! My Black Milk Snake often hides in his burrow for several days when he’s about to shed. He’s been known to disappear for up to 10 days before emerging to shed. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Pueblan Milk Snake Wont Come Out of Hide! my pueblan will burrow under the paper towel i use for substrate and spend most of his time there. on feeding days i’ll move him to the hide and place his food infront. he never comes out to eat while i’m in the room but with in a half hour or so he comes out and takes the food back into the hide. and once he eats it’s back under the towel.
