 Smallest monitor

hey i’m just curious what is the smallest monitor and what are the caging requirements, cost, etc.? just very basic info is all i need.

the smallest monitor i can think of is probz a storrs varanus storri. But they are quite pricey at about £250 in the uk. Abput a 3x2x2 should be big enough. The smallest tegu is a golden tegu but these are no starter lizard very aggressive. if you want a dwarf monitor go 4 an ackies.

Technically, Varanus brevicauda or the pigmy short-tailed monitor is the smallest, but you will never see one for sale here in the US - so the smallest available US monitor would be a Storr’s like jordki said above.

As far as tegu’s, there is Calopistes maculatus or the Chilean dwarf tegu that is smaller than a Columbian black and gold Tupinambis teguixin. This species has a spotty track record as a captive and is rarely seen as a US pet/import.

You should get an Ackie and build the box cage, not use a fishtank. Yellows have been sold for $150 even at expos here in Tampa, reds are usually $250+ as they are a little more rare and slightly more colorful.
