i live in NJ and in edison they are having a pet expo show also featuring repticon. i am going to go there and i was interested with coming back with an ackie. i know all the stuff needed for most types of lizards but for ackies, which i know are dwarf monitors, would a 55 gallon tank be good?

Build a custom tank out of plywood or a stock watering trough, aqauriums will end up costing alot more and a screen top releases way to much humdidity, they also are generall not tall enough for 12 inches of dirt, which is required of ackies. Here is a pic of my cage, complete with a basking spot of 160 degrees, Deep substrate, Retes Stack, and plenty of Hiding spots.

thnx! really nice enclosure! ur ackie must be really happy. u just use sand or any loos substrate? and also wut is a decent price for an ackie? thnk u! i wanna be prepared for the convention

I ordered mine, and had it shipped from switzer reptiles, I bought it for 200 dollars including shipping, at a show 175-200 is a good price. My substrate is yard dirt mixed with playground sand I purchased from home depot, the mix ratio is about 70/30 just be sure to have it very deep so they can make very nice burrows. read the FAQ and caresheet at proexotics, also be prepared to purchase a temp gun from them so you can accurately measure the basking spot.
