It is down at the moment. It used to be GoannaRanch . com (without the spaces, of course).

You may try contacting him via email. I don’t know what his address is, but if you are a member of kingsnake you can just click on his name to contact him.

may I ask if that sand is calci-sand? If it isn’t don’t worry, but my vet recently told me that calci-sand induces impaction, because calcium starved animals eat the sand as a source of nutrition. Just a word for the wise.

Put them on real dirt, all natural dirt. It’s funner to watch them dig and don’t wory about impaction as long as their healthy. Did Frank Retes ask you some questions about your setup or husbandry when he sold you them? What are you feeding those buggers? Basking temp? Could you post some pics of the cage?

hey people.

nice monitors . yes frank is a great person to deal w/.

i havent tried this product yet because its still on order. i think my boss said its from zoo med. i cant remmember exactly. they will be putting this out in stores i gues soon.. its sand, and if u moisten it up a bit it’ll become more of a clay type and animals that burrow will be able to build tunnels in them. agian i have not tried it yet.. we have lik 2 50lb bags on order... but wen i do ill let everyone know where to get it and how it works outs.. but from wat the sales rep said about it makes me want to give it a try.
i dont have any ackies or other monitors that would thrive on sand so ill be trying it on some mali uros.

have a nice day people

The only thing I would say about that product is make sure it’s all clumped up into the clay before you would introduce the Uros. Thing is if it clumps hard in water imagine what it will do if ingested in that loose state (remember calcium sand clumps similarly)...

My alkie eats mice and digests the bone so I’m sure a bit of calci sand is going to hurt a healthy lizard. I prefer using drain pipe for tunnels had to many incidents of tunnels collapsing. I kept lizard on sand for 10 years without any impaction cases. Most the zoos I’ve been to use sand as a substrate.

Please don’t start a sand war, these are my views I know the anti sand party won’t agree.

actually if your dirt/sand miture substrate was moist enough then it wouldn’t collapse. And they absolutly NEED a deep sand/dirt mixture to be an actual monitor

just a heads up on calci-sand: it can cause impaction and digestion problems. the sand has the same substances that TUMS have to reduce stomach acids. if ingested, it seeps up the acid and can make it difficult to digest it’s food. this CAN be fatal everyone, please. don’t use it.
