Minimum cage size for an adult is 4x2x2. They will need about 10 inches to a foot of dirt for digging. Basking spot of 130* is optimum. Lots of hides that he can burrow under. Branches for climbing. Most get about 2 feet, give or take some inches. This is a really good care sheet and should help you. Link
Good luck

make a "retes stack". they’re very helpful bye making basking, and hiding places for the ackie that allow him to choose how cool or warm he wants to be. it also helps if you only put the "running" on one side so the crevice goes from, say, 1" to nothing, allowing him to choose how tight he wants to be.

basking: 120-130 for hatchlings, 130-140 for juveniles, and 130-150 for adults with cool areas of 75-80. this is where the stack really helps. it allows a hiding spot in every temperature zone.

i feed mostly insects but i’ve given mine a mouse pinkie once a week since he took them. im thinking of moving from crickets to lobster roaches.

the best place to get dirt is from dry stream beds and he needs a minimum of 1ft. for burrowing once adult. keep the dirt moist but not wet. too much moisture will cause shedding problems.

once they’re adult, yes. they need one foot. hatchlins only need 4-5 though. a good rule to go by is a layer of soil as deep as half the monitor’s length atleast.

Minimum for a monitor is twice as long as the monitor and as wide as the monitor is long. Most average 2 feet or bigger. So 4x2x2 is minumum.

looks like pugmar was right. the minimum for any monitor is 2 times its length by 1 times its length, but still, why do the absolute least? my 4 and a half foot nile is in a 10x7.

I could build a 4x2x4 if i was going to get the ackie. But since its someone else who i guess is limited to space since they care about mimiuim i figured we’ll the least amount they could have would be a 3x2x2. BUT if you have the space why do minium? Well i dont belive in "min" anyway but according to caresheets/etc i’ve heard 3x2x2, but i guess 4x2x2 should be min

actually both of u are right either one is good but 4x2x2 is 1 foot longer in length. if u look at the care sheets is says that 3x2x2 is the minimum and 4x2x2 is good for a pair. so yea.

Wow, I wouldn’t keep a beardie in less than 4x2x2 and not a pair of them in that. I’ve always heard twice the length long and at least length wide. I plan on using the 6ft x 2.5ft x 2.5ft box if/when I pick up one or two. I’m waiting for the reptile expos

Marshall, I like your enclosure.

Ben, Thanks. I have to make a modification and put a litter damn in for the dirt. I’m waiting to save up money and hope to come across a good deal. I’d really like to start with babies so I can learn as they grow. Granted they aren’t like getting ahold of an adult nile as a beginner monitor keeper but all the same. Besides, I loved watching my beardie grow. I have other questions about them, but I’ll wait till I get the money to start asking.
