Nile Swimmin’ Pool I have a 3 foot Nile in a 10’x12’ bedroom. I’m thinking of putting a good sized kiddie pool with a pondliner and a rockpile in the center for a waterfall. I,ve been keeping large tropical fish and have a good understanding of how biological filtration works. I plan to use bio-filtration but its probably not enough. It seems as if I’ll need some sort of mechanical filtration to remove the solid waste produced by my animal. I raised a Salvator years ago and had a large kiddie pool on a platform with a drain. I spent a lot of time filling and dumping 5 gallon buckets and would like to avoid that sort of thing if possible. Any experience anyone?

Nile Swimmin’ Pool Any monitor set up with a good dirt substrate will need water changes very often even with filtration.

Nile Swimmin’ Pool get a canisterfilter, i plan on using one when i get my nile in a bigger enclosure. fluval is the best in my opinion its made by hagen, ask your local pet store on what the best will be for your situation but make sure that they sell you a canister filter and not just a power filter or a sump filter..... trust me on this i work at a pet store. but if you want to go the cheaper route then try the cascade filter(its the name not the type) but like i said it will benefit you later if you go for the Fluval brand. but also you will still need changes at least weekly.

Nile Swimmin’ Pool Thats a lot better than every day like I had to do with my water. Of course I’ll do whatever I have to do anyhow. I have 2 common niles. One is about 7 mo and 3 ft the other about 8 mo and 2 ft. Dont ask me The younger one isnt shy at all and is a lot meaner than the older one. He just started eating like crazy and growing like a weed. The older is much shier and calmer. It wont eat when anyone is around and hides a lot more. I,m pretty sure the smaller older one is wild caught. The larger younger was farmed whether or not that means anything I dont know. They were both kept in exactly the same conditions.
