This is probably the most worst condition animal I have ever seen. It seriously hurts inside when you see things like this!

what is this person playing at? she acutally says ’im gonna smack you’ - ? if this animal is agressive and that old no amount of smacking is gonna help. it should be left alone in the correct environemt. it’s already had a sh’ty life so far, just let it live out the rest of it’s lasts days in piece.
i want to smack her. with a spade, then dig a big hole to put her body it, and the dirt i can use for the monitors cage.

also who noticed the badly bend legs? looked like it had 2 knees.

its sad that someone that supposedly runs a rescue has him leashed, with no apparent enclosure and is feeding him from the looks of it eggs and ferret food! WTF is wrong with this chick?

I don’t know why I fall for that every time. I should know better, but I had to look.
While it’s not the absolute worst thing I’ve seen on youtube, as far as animal abuse goes. I did feel the need to leave her a nice little note. And I meant what I said about ’no matter how much money she’s spent on vet bills, if she’s going to treat it like that for the rest of it’s life, it would be better off dead’

Stumbling across thread here, but damn. Why in the world did she smear egg all over the floor and smack the lizard for going after ’moving prey’?... Why wasn’t she using feeding tongs? Why wasn’t she protecting her ’toes’ by wearing proper footwear? Why on earth is she feeding the poor monitor ferret food and turkey meat?

The person keeps saying they have a huge tank, and that they only bring out the monitor because "it’s boring otherwise", but where is this huge tank? You’d think after being eviscerated online for their monitor care, she’d post pics of the tank.

What worries me to great extremes is that this person claims to run an animal rescue.

A person asked how easy monitors were to care for and her response was roughly, "I’ve only had this guy for 6 months, but my water dragon is cool/lazy/a lounge lizard (forgot the exact word)." I sincerely hope she’s not recommending these monitors to random people.

This is her description of her cage for ’Baby’, the monitor in the video - taken off her website,

"Baby’s cage is the size of a twin bed so I have chosen to go with cage carpet rather than calci-sand. I didn’t want to pay the $100s of dollars it would cost to fill it with sand and then have large amounts of sand spred throught out my apartment. Only use cage carpet or calci-sand with reptiles. The calcium aids in digestion and prevents compaction. He has a heat lamp and UV lamp. His heat lamp is inside and his uv sits on top. He has a hide out on both sides of his cage and a large water dish. I put puppy pads under his cage carpet to help absorb any moisture that soaks through the carpet. I put posters up on the inside of the walls to cover the stains that had acumulated there. He loves to tare these down. I don’t know how much it cost them to build that cage but I spent several $100 on aditional things for it."

She also states never to feed pets in their cage and that calcisand should be used more than once.

On her website, she goes on about how she takes her animals to schools and lets children handle them.

All I can say is, look at the condition of her monitor.

Then choose if you want to follow her advice or not.

No thanks.

Yeah but a lot of the kids on youtube don’t know any better. They’ll believe anyone with a big lizard and a little authority. Esp if he’s wearing a ’ranger’ outfit!

I feel sorry for the monitor. This lady is saying eat what is there to eat all I see is yellow crap on the floor. She holds him down and shoves him away. It hurts me inside that people actually think there monitor is find and that there is nothing wrong with it. I just want to say I am sorry for every monitor, snake, lizard, mammal that is in bad care right now if i could I would take them all in a give them the respect, and love they need.

That is the saddest thing I’ve seen on youtube to date. What I don’t get is how people think they’re ’rescuing’ anything when the conditions they keep an animal in are no better than (or even worse than) the conditions in which the animal was kept previously. Like so many others out there, she’s more concerned about its temperament than its health and is busy trying to ’tame’ it rather than improve its condition. What’s worse, if you watch a few of the other videos you’ll see that she often deliberately provokes it into biting to prove how ’savage’ it is, by flicking her foot or pushing the camera against its head after teasing it with her fingers. The poor thing needs to be set up in a good enclosure, fed the right foods and not hassled. It’s hardly malicious - in one of the other videos it seems genuinely curious about the camera until she starts hassling it.

She’s also got some weird idea in her head that feeding whole mice cause skin infections (I’m willing to bet that it lacks a good basking site, among other things) so she feeds it boiled turkey and steak.

This is where my all time favourite quote by Jean Paul Sartre is most appropriate: l’enfer, c’est les autres (hell is other people)

I’d have to agree that the videos are some of the most sad and ignorant things I’ve ever seen involving a Monitor lizard. I almost wish I did not see that at all.

Good quote, David.

In my opinion, It’s not much worse than watching muffdummys’ savannas swim in the tub with one floating almost belly up and another clinging to it like a life preserver, reading Danceswithsatans’ training logs, or watching the Rump Ranger snatch his undermetabolized nile by the head. The thing that sucks about this whole issue is the fact that this hobby is a free for all. The general public is uninformed about proper reptile husbandry practices and reptiles do not hold a place of endearment in the hearts of most. There are certain guidlines and standards as far as the husbandry which owners of animals such as cats and dogs must adhere to or face legal consequences. There are no guidlines and the standards are very low for reptiles. If the awareness and standards were raised, people like the afore mentioned would face legal consequences and would surely not be allowed to own animals.

Well spoken sidbarvin , (by the way I should my mom a pic of your Niles and she loved them. She wants mine to turn out like that). I have 3 monitors. 1. Ornate monitor(Otis) he is in a 6x4x4 cage. 2. Tanzanian Black throat monitor(Taz) He is in a 7x4x4 cage. 3. Mangrove monitor(swamp) he is in a 5x4x3 cage. My dad use to be like that. Giving his monitors a bath Trying to tame them, but one day he got bite by a timor monitor he tried to tame, now he doesn’t even try to hold them.

Repticale, what are you going to do when all three of your monitors reach full size? You’ll need two 10’ long enclosures and one 8’ long enclosure - that’s an awful lot of space considering you’re living with the ’rents.

I will be moving out soon to a much bigger house. I am going to try to breed them all. A breeding pair of ornate monitors are going in a 12x8x5(room). Black throat monitors going in a 12x8x5(room). The Mangrove monitor pair are going in a 10x5x5 cage. Me my Grandpa and my uncle are building a big house in Oklahoma.
