 Black throat enclosure

I was wondering if an adult black throat could live in a 10x6 enclosure.
If not how much larger would I need to go?
Thanks

Yes that’d be fine.

That would be a bit tight, considering they can get to be close to 7ft. So, figure in case it gets that big
14x7x6. Or you could just give it it’s own room!
While it ’could’ live in a 10x6 cage, larger would do it more justice. They are very active, under the right conditions, but can be fat and lazy if they don’t have enough room to explore, dig, climb etc.

Size is relative. A monitor could easily be more successful in a 10x6 than a 14x7x6, depending how the enclosure is set up. If the space is usable and provides options the monitor needs and uses, I imagine it would be sufficient. Bigger is not always better if the space is wasted and/or unusable to the animal. :)

Show me on captive animal even close to 7 foot. There are three records of 7’2’ males. All WC animals, I’ve yet to see another one even near that size. I know of a 6’6’ female but shes a wt/wt/bt cross, and a few other 6’ males, but when you get to that size another 1’ is a big difference.

10x6 is by far enough space for a pair of albigs in less you have two 6’ albigs.

Cheers,
Chad

A pair! Okay, but I think you’re sending the wrong message. Both of you.

Not in the least.

Exactly, in suggesting ’the least’ amount of space recommended for a single Albig.

Sds,

This is what I’m saying. You are making too big of a generalization about cage size. Look at the reptile ranger for example. He has a huge room for his croc, but how much of the space is wasted and unusable? Almost all of it. He has what, 2 branches and a bathtub? The rest is air, concrete and walls. So you say get a big cage, but it means nothing. The key is to provide suitable settings for your animal. Things it can use and that help it thrive. That cage is huge and worthless. Size doesn’t always matter in this case. But I agree, there is definintely a minimum if the animal can’t fit in the dang cage and have room to move.

If you’re using that as an example, sure, I agree. The cage and the keeper are a huge waste of space.
I just happen to believe, we should provide as large an enclosure as possible, rather than go with the ’suggested minimum’ cage size. If no one had ever told me the minimum size of cage a 6ft monitor required, I would never have imagined it could be happy to spend it’s whole life in a 10x6 box. Still can’t.

I also believe that we should provide as large of a cage as possible. Totally agree there. I was just pointing out that its not only the size that matters, it’s what is inside. I’m not disagreeing with you, I’m just saying that there is more to it that just a large cage. :)
