Take it easy Kirk, you just got the little bugger. You should know what to expect if you’ve paid attention to the discussions on these fora. Give it time to settle in. It can take a little or a very long time for your water to loose it’s shyness. You could be one of the luck people that wind up with a monitor that remains shy for months or years.

My water his almost all the time when it was smaller. Now, a few months later, it just hangs out unless we go to touch it.

Mine is the same way Ed. It will hang out and go about its business untill I put a hand near it. The I get the old huff and puff along with some snapping and tailwhipping, ha ha ha. This is after eight months. I have managed to tong feed again a few times lately. The real shy defensive behavior all started when I introduced the bugger to the eight by four cage.

I have the same with Slash. When I had him in a little fish tank. He was so nice and would eat rite from my hand. But when I put him in his new home 8x4x4. He gives me puffs, I never got a tail whip or a bite. But I see it as he has lot more room to move around. And that is his home and I am coming into it and he dose not like it at all.

I came home the other day and Tammy showed me a red spot on her arm. She told me she was tong feeding it and then petted the monitor. When she touched it, it tail whipped her. HAHA I wish I had seen that.
