It’s official. I’m retarded.

I managed to kill a baby Ackie monitor in the most creative way possible. Since I’ve already thrown things across the house and cursed up a storm, I feel a little better. So here it goes...

One of the four baby Ackies I held back (despite insane numbers of requests to buy some of these) managed to squeeze out of his cage, drop to the floor from 4 ft up, and then go into my broom closet about 8 feet away. He then proceeded to climb up into the underside of my vacuum cleaner. Being the genius that I am, I did not recognize that one of the 4 was not in the cage. They have tunnel systems and take turns being out and about basking. I know for a fact that all 4 were in there this past Monday.

So I have a half day today and decide to clean my house up a bit. What do I do? You guessed it.... vacuumed. I turned the thing on and the lizard got friction burns and torn up within seconds with Einstein sitting there going, "Hmmm. What’s caught up in the vacuum giving me resistance?" Unbelievable, just unbelievable. Poor thing.

Seriously though, I know how bad you feel, one of my favorite male leos I had back when I kept them escaped his cage and managed to get under my window (it was open just an inch to let some air in) and get out of the house, falling to his death. It was a horrible time for me. I’m very sorry about your loss and hope the other three are doing great!

Sorry to here about your lost. I am breeding armadillo lizards, and I had got 7 babies. I had stuck them in a cage with a pretty good size water bowl. Well the water bowl wound up killing 3 of my babies it sucks.

I guess it’s a freak thing, but if I hadn’t vacuumed it, it very easily could have lived in my hot, cricket-filled house until I stumbled across it, heard it moving or went looking for it once I realized it was out. I very meticulously used that expanding foam in every crevice of my home when I moved in. That was more of an anti-roach maneuver, but also makes escape very unlikely (crix and lizards).

Mike - it was not the definite female, it was the "tweener" I mentioned before. So if there’s a bright side to this, there’s a pair there still at least. I’m still irked by this a lot, but I’ll get over it.

Not to make light of your loss, but when I read the title of the post and saw the words vacuum cleaner at first glance, I immediately thought of Scotts’ method of emptying water pans and envisioned you sucking up an ackie with a shop vac.. Now that would be retarded. What really happened was purely accidental. I’m with Mike. If I were you, I wouldn’t kick my self in the arse too hard, well maybe I would but I hope you don’t. it wasn’t a reptile thing, but my friends dad went to go start the car in the morning and it turned out a cat was hiding around the engine cause it was winter....

let’s just say blood sprayed out the tail pipe and leave it at that. no way you could’ve known you’re ackie had escaped.
