Thinking of Separating the Little Ones

The little niles I acquired last month are doing well. However, I have been thinking of separating them. I seem to have a case of dejavu here. One is very shy and only comes out and eats at night when no one is around. The other does not seem bothered by human presence at all. The bold one is tong feeding with gusto while the other has ceased tong feeding all together. I catch glimpses of the shy one gulping down crickets now and then, but it soon disappears when it see’s me. The brave one is finishing it’s second shed while the other is just beginning its’ first. The brave one has also grown a bit larger than the other.

I have seen no sign of aggression between the two so far. They even share the same burrow under the water dish.

I had been thinking of separating for a while, then I saw Mikes hatchling setups and it pretty much made up my mind. I feel like the shier of the two will do better alone where, as Mike said, I can monitor its’ food intake a bit better.

The thing that has caused me to hesitate, is the possibility that they may not accept each other when I try to reintroduce them. The cage I’m building is plenty big enough for the two to live in together for a few months and should there be any trouble between the two after the reintroduction in the new environment, I still have an old timor cage as backup.

Any experience on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Roger

Roger, my boscs acted the same way when I first got them. The shy one eventually got used to me and outgrew the brave one. I’m going to vote on leaving them together until it really becomes a problem.

Hey Roger, just an idea but have you thought of placing a seperator in a cage?
I had a thick coated wire fenching I used when trying to find a male albig my female didn’t want to kill.
I butted the cages next to each other, using the fence as a seperator.
They could still see and smell each other but couldn’t hurt each other.
I think this might work with two that already know each other.
Eventually, you could remove the fence and they would each have their own territory.
It’s just a thought I’m throwing out, let me get some more coffee and maybe I’ll think of something else.
