 Bulb types and heat

We all know that watt for watt, halogen bulbs produce more heat than incandescent bulbs, but I’m curious where HPS and MVB lights fit into this picture.

I found some at Princess Auto...it’s a big hardware/surplus kinda store, and they always have lots of random stuff...but anyway, I found 100 watt HPS bulbs for $9.99 and 80 watt MVB lights for $6.99 and was wondering if it would be worth my time to pick up a couple.

They’re just the regular bulbs, so I don’t know about their UVB output, if it varies from bulbs that are marketed specifically for reptiles or not, so if anybody has any idea about this I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks guys!

What are the Mercury Vapor Ballasted bulbs from Princess Auto marketed for? As in the "recommended" use on the packaging.

I honestly don’t remember, I’ll have to check next time I’m there.

I’m guessing it’d be used for a yard light or something like that.
