Tegu or savannah It all depends on how you look at it. As for a "pet" the tegu would be the better choice and are very fun and interesting to keep. But for me I like having a monitor more because I enjoy their habits, tempers, and can sit and watch mine all day(if it decides to grace me with its presence). A monitor seems to be the more rewarding animals to keep just because they take so much work and effort to create any type of trust, and every time you clear a hurdle with them its an awesome feeling. Don’t get me wrong Tegu’s are wonderful to keep and are rewarding as well, its just really a personal preference and depends soley on the keeper.

Tegu or savannah I have two black and white argentine’s and a red. All of them are wonderful and interesting to keep. They seem to get really lazy the older they are, though.

Tegu or savannah I have a Arg black and white tegu. It’s feeding response is way faster and more agressive then the argus I had. As soon as I walk into the room with mice he goes bezirk.

Tegu or savannah I my opinion, it depends on the experience you already have. If you are still new with reptiles, I would go with the tegu from what I have read. They seem to be a more ’Pet’ like animal. I don’t personally have one but I have researched them. Monitors have an attitude of their own, they think they are top dog and they will treat you that way. A Savannah is a very shy animal, it will take awhile for them to trust you. If you could go with not holding him for the first 6 months, years, then you might do OK. You can’t just treat them like some reptiles where you grab them and hold them for a few minutes every day and then they will tame down. That’s not true with a savannah, if you did that you would stress the crap out of him and two things would probably happen: 1. You would be in a lot of pain if he got his mouth on you and 2. He would not live but a short few years if that.
Not saying you wouldn’t be a good keeper, but you have to remember that you cannot handle them until they trust you which could take a long time. If you are looking for more of a pet, I would go with a Tegu just from what I’ve read. But, I’m sure others will have some thoughts on this too. :-)

Tegu or savannah Its gonna depend on which Tegu you keep as well as some are a little more docile than others. I have a blk/gld right now and it will eat from tongs, usually stay out when I come into view, etc, but if you try to pick it up its bite city. In my personal experience with them the argentines seem to be way more on the docile side.

Tegu or savannah I dont think it depends on the species of animal for how it will be. Like my tegu has more attitude then any monitor I have owned. It’s mean, it bites, tail white, hisses, and jumps at me. I have never had a monitor do any of that except the argus would tail whip. Each lizard will be different as they are all there own individual.

Tegu or savannah I agree as far as each lizard is its own individual. Yours is one of probably less than a handful of that particular species being defensive to that extent. The experiences I’ve had through friends, breeders I know,my own that i’ve kept have just shown me that the arg seems to have (usually) a better disposition than the other species.

Tegu or savannah Where I said yours is one in less than a handful I meant to finish with "that I’ve seen or heard of". My mind works faster than my fingers type:).
