 Why didn’t anyone warn me?

Why didn’t anyone warn me about giving my ackies superworms? I feed adult male dubia. Gave my ackie exercise and food. Fun to watch. I was just breeding and selling off superworms and never really fed them off. So I fed a day of super worms....then rat pinks....

Now I throw in adult dubia, they gave chase to one..stopped and gave me the "hey that’s not a superworm" stare. This can’t be good.

This is a good post! Someone else mentioned feeding their sav supers and I was about to respond with a warning, not to over do it! They (reps) absolutely love the fat little buggers and get hooked on them.
They’re really not good to feed as a staple IMO, but I"m as guilty as the next keeper for feeding them to finicky reps! For instance, my turtle used to like nightcrawlers, but got hooked on supers and just leaves everything else. It can become a problem, as supers don’t provide enough / proper nutrition.

I fed my tegu super’s whe I got her to get her to thinkin up. I fed her roughly 600 super worms. She switched over to mice though with out a hassle. I could feed 60-80 super’s a day and now she eats 6-8 small adult mice.

My Savannah will refuse any worm. I never fed him a single worm and then tried to give him some about a year ago and he ate one and refused the rest. Tried again a couple weeks later and still refused them.

Some herps really gravitate towards the rich, fatty worms - if you think Superworms are bad, try waxworms. I guess it’s like the cheesecake and potato chip diets some folks get hooked on. LOL Personally, my Monitors don’t refuse anything at all. They seem to be constantly ravished for food despite practically daily feedings most of the year.

Supers are very high in Phosphorus vs Calcium and high % fat vs protein - not the greatest feeder choice fyi.

The only guys that will eat super worms is my mountain horned dragon and my pixie frog. Tried the other day to give my sav a few but he didn’t go for it, earthworm last night though got pounded back in seconds. Haven’t tried to feed supers to my skink though I’m sure he’d love them.

I had a Beardie who’s precious owners had fed nothing but superworms and they refused anything but. It took me two weeks of offering fresh veggies daily with no other choices to get them off of them.
