2nd clutch of ackie eggs, close call

Well, as I continue to learn my way through this process my second female laid a clutch of eggs today.
I have 7 eggs from my other female cooking in the incubator. My two females and on e male are all in the same 8x4x4 cage.

Despite my nice big egg box with moist, deep dirt this female, who is not shy to begin with decided to dig the nest in about 4 inches of dirt, front and center of the cage. I could see the eggs in the back of the hole. She was still in the process this morning but looked done, just mainly sitting at the opening.

I go to take a shower and come back downstairs and there’s the male eating an egg!

I was able to put the other 7 in the incubator.

So now I have two clutches of 7.

Congrats on both clutches.
Did you have to go back into the shower after seeing your male with an egg in his mouth? LOL

No but I was less than thrilled. I was surprised he got into the nest so quickly with the female there.
There was already fluid leaking from it. As I dug up the remaining eggs he sat there licking up the egg contents as they oozed out, not even a foot away from where I was removing the eggs.

I think my wife was more upset, especially after I filled the nest location back in and the female immediately began digging there.

Nest boxes suck for Ackies. I have told you guys this several times. I have had ONE successful nestbox nesting and 25 other times they choose to dig long tunnels in the substrate of the cage and avoid the nestboxes completely. For whatever comfort reason, females want to dig long corridor tunnels with this species in particular and not offering deep substrate is asking for trouble. At least you got 7 eggs to work with and your female lives another day, Dennis! lol

I was actually thinking of building a divider and making one side of the cage a a couple feet deep dirt.
It would look more natural than the egg box which I like anyway.
