 Argus Update

Here’s some pics of the 6 mo old arguses from Krusty’s stash. The male is growing considerably faster than the female. He still shows some dominance, but the female is starting to stand up for herself more and hiding less. I’m seeing more of her on a daily basis and its a blast seeing them go about their daily business.

It was hard to get both in focus under the lights, so there is one pic with flash and one without.

Argus are looking great, Jeff. That big log looks like it was a back-breaker to move!

Thanks a ton!

One of my favorite part of this hobby is designing the environments. Here is one that I was most proud of, for a neonate Boa

And the humidifying system I put in that was on a timer:

I have a fair bit to go before I get my Argus, but I hope its enclosure turns out half as well as yours.

Thanks everyone. I am really starting to appreciate what the monitors bring every day as part of the hobby. And yes Justin, I moved the log by myself, as well as all the dirt all in one weekend. That was probably the least favorite of times, but I wanted to add a drain on the bottom of the tank, so what else can you do.

I had the stump that went with the log as well, but it wouldnt fit in the cage. Guess I need to expand the cage.

8’w x 3’d x 6.5’h at its highest point. It was built to match the pitch of the roof to make the most of the vertical space.

I relied on the expert experience of Krusty to make sure I got my 1.1. They are from his collection. Hoping to see some breeding activities in the future from these two.

Yep it’s a bit easier when you have clutch mates and as Justin has bred countless Argus then you couldent get a better judge , good luck with the future breeding with them as they are a fantastic species both to keep and breed.

Thanks Steve. I don’t see the female as much as the male, and when I do the male is chasing her around (dominance, mating activities?). She has learned to stand up for herself more lately, with hissing and some biting.

You keep stating here that I guaranteed they’d be a 1.1 Jeff. I did not say that with Argus a few months old I sent you. I can’t make 100% calls on such young lizards, nor can anyone who breeds can attest to. I said they ’appear’ to be a boy and a girl by some subtle stuff and I still think that’s the case, but don’t go around stating I ’know’ the sex of 8-12 week old Argus Monitors as it’s not a 100% science at all. I only commented on this as it’s like the 4th post you’ve made these comments and I don’t want any false rumors going around. They still look to be holding up sexing to be a pair (male/female) by all means, but careful with the "krusty guaranteed 1.1" comments. The lizards and the cage are looking great by the way too!
