Thumbs up ! That’s one nice looking enclosure there Mike. What materials did you use to cover the three walls?

That’s one question I was hoping nobody would ask! LOL
Around a grand.
Considering it will NEVER rot it’s a fair price...I think!

I would imagine it comes in rolls? Who would stock this orchid bark for resale? It gives an visually awesome look to the enclosure. Looks better than some of the Zoo enclosures I’ve seen.

You apply the fine mulch to an adhesive like 2 part epoxy while it’s still curing and it becomes a natural velvet looking stuff that holds up. Very pretty cage, Mike. Where do they nest? Is there a nest in that hole in the lower tree thing? Can’t see well from pic.

Thanks!
It is lose in bags, I believe they sell bags of fir bark at pet shops for a HIGH price!
I bought a 50lb bag from an orchid nursery near my house for $20, that’s a deal!

Thanks again Brother!

Of course the entire bottom could be used to nest in.

The lower tree thing is the soap dish/towle bar.
I glued some plexi to cover it and filled it with some wood pulp from the woods.
The bark with the hole in it covers the plexi...both are removable for easy access.
It could be used to nest in...it’s kind of small though.

At this time I also have one external nest box.

Here is the entrance from with in the enclosure.

The faux termite mound before I mounted it.

Thanks guys! I guess I was thinking maybe it came in rolls like some pressed form cork boards. Now that I know its a two part epoxy as the adhesive, I have the equipment to spray it and can use most any texture I like.(Sand/gravel/bark) Thanks again.

Stunning Mike!! some real nice curved/shaped branches in there :)

that’s the thing about keeping a shy species, if your cage looks great it’s helps with empty cage syndrome, like a 3d picture in your room! :)

Thanks Brother!
That is actually one piece, not sure if it’s a vine or a tree.
I have never seen a vine this big with this type of bark on it.
Nor have I ever seen a tree grow so "vine" like?
Puzzling I tell you.

All of my Similis are very out going.
Only one female is on the shy side, but she will still tong feed.

I have always enjoyed having "naturalistic" enclosures.
This one shares time with my best friend (52" plasma tv). LOL

Hi Mike
Thank Brother.
The substrate I’m using is typical, sandy loam.
It is a mix of sand, soil and rotted tree pulp.
Half of the tub is heated with a Kane heat mat.

I used 100% brown silicone, hand troweled, broadcasted the fir and pressed it in.
I never used two part epoxy, but what ever works!

Thanks Mike,
The silicone could be applied thicker than the resin/catalyst I use and thus hold a thicker layer of bark or other chosen materials(sand, gravel, etc.). Good idea.

Thanks,
Chris.......

Very nice cage! I like the look of natural cages as well.
If I were a monitor, I would definitely enjoy living in that cage!
Great Job!!

While I agree with you...keep in mind enclosures don’t have to look nice, they HAVE to function well first!
