Wow! I know I have said this before but those Flavi’s are some of the most stunning animals I have ever seen. And I have never seen one in person!!

Uh yeah, "Fred", it is. Panoptes crosses (assuming that’s what you’re insinuating) look different and have some "tells" about the face especially. I had to search for years and a lot of waiting to get unmixed V.g.f.’s to breed here. Why?

Well yes, the crosses are much more common and anything Argus breeds like wildfire. But there are a spotty few pure Flavis around. They just never make it to the classifieds.

Cheers

Thanks Mark. Yeah, I am really surprised at the quality vs using my Nikon D60 with quality lenses. It’s not that huge of a drop-off, but obviously limits the ’type’ of photos you can take with a phone.

Cool.

I took this ?male? out today for something also and snapped another cell pic. This one is 9-10 months old. It’s not the prettiest of the lot, but it’s got nice bold patterning.

Great picture, I really like the way they look. If thats 9/10 months old they must be just about the perfect adult size? I would like to have something bigger then ackies some day in the future, but argus might be a little to big for me realistickly. It’s the cage size I take pretty seriously. I don’t have the heart to put them in a cage I don’t think is big enough. Judging by your picture they might not be to crazy to house (guessing)? That would be a perfect fit for me, if they weren’t so rare. Take it easy.

Nick - they’re about 34-36" males and 30-32" females maximum adult size, Flavirufus. The one pictured will probably slow down the length-wise growth shortly and start bulking up with muscle and tone soon. The one pictured above is by-far the largest of the lot. He tried killing 2 cagemates feeding and lives alone, so he’s getting a lion share of food and basks all day long (= fast growth). Usually when they’re bulking up is when they can start being reproductive too (as he’s about to start I believe). Hopefully with all these "holdback" juvenile Flavi’s I can get babies hatching out and get them to be more available in the coming years. They are a very cool Monitor and a 4x8 foot floorspace cage is excellent for them in pairs. Time will tell. They’ve been difficult breeders for me until last year.

I was actually going to guess a little bigger than that, that size and 4x8 footprint was just what I had in mind. It will be some time as i refuse to take on another project untill I can succesfully hatch ackies on a regular bassis. It’s a personal goal at this point LOL. Anyway good to know there is something cbb and hardy in that size range, for the future. Thanks for the info, Take it easy.

Justin is that a rainbow monitor you have there! there looks to be 8 different colour/shade bands on him, it can’t be the light it’s outside.
