Green tree monitor with best freind

so i was looking through some older pics and i found this one, its my female while she was gravid and the only crawfish that didnt get eatten and out grew there mouths, she sleeps in the water bowl when she is gravid even though humidty is at constant 80 always have a fogger running on low to keep it perfect, anyways the lights had just turned on so i look in the enclosure and theyre they were just sleeping, wish the dead cricket wasnt there but wanted to get the shot, they have never tried to fight excep once he was walking around out of the water caught a cricket and i guess my green tree thought it was feeding her she ran up took the cricket and ran off crawfish looked pissed but thats it, o and man when there gravid they just have to kick everything into the water bowl.... just thought you would enjoy.

Yeah twice and I believe she is gravid again, first time she layed in the water bowl and now she layed a while back, she was the one nest Gaurding in January we are still incubating those eggs and she has been acting like she might be gravid again, do they multi clutch(if that’s what it is called)? Because I Haven’t seen them at it but I can’t watch them 24/7 haha wish I could though.

All Monitors seem to multi-clutch (laying more than one clutch per year) in captivity. It’s actually more common than annual single clutches.

I would seriously get your nesting options up to par as laying eggs in the water bowl will eventually get you heartache and a dead female. That is not good nesting and poorly kept or nested female Monitors die somewhat commonly fyi. Put a very large dark plastic container in the cage and fill it to the top with substrate and have a small entry hole.

thanks thats good to know she layed the first time(had no idea she was gravid, got her at a convention in not good health thought she was finally gaining weight after 6 months of having her but letting them settle in left them alone alot or with sheet over them for first couple months when i wasnt bonding) in the water bowl then the second time only the first egg in the bowl other two were just on the bottom in dirt mixed with moss buried(second time i had attached a plastic sterlite tub to the top and put little whole in it and filled it to the top which is why the water bowl is filled with moss at the time because she had to dig it all out for some reason and left it empty and the male decided he liked it after it was empty but hated it before) so now i will fill it with dirt and it should be fine or should it be placed on the bottom of the encloser?

You want it in a fairly dark and low-traffic location in the cage. If the bottom of the cage gets the nest box up to low to mid 80’s (°F) temps, it’s fine down low. Pack the material to the top fully so she has to dig into it, don’t leave an airspace gap or it’ll get used as a shelter.

Unrelated species, but a well-nested Red Ackie clutch I dug up this evening. You should have eggs buried all at once in a pile down in some material (coco husk coir, dirt, leaves and dirt mixed, sand, or something) like this in a "normal" nesting:

Okay I will fill it to the top with dirt guess she didn’t like the moss, should I change the substrate from soil mixed with moss to 50 50 top soil and sand like I have in my melinus and timor enclosures? Thanks for the help and tips.

also just to make sure, is it bad that she likes to sleeps in the water bowl at night when she is gravid even if she were to nest properly(she normaly sleeps in the crack between the nest box and the side of the encloser where she cant be seen besides the long tail hanging down, while male sleeps in empty nest box which i have never heard of them sleeping in an empty box but not likeing it full? or they both just sleep together on the side.), i have read on other forms that its normal for other monitors to spend alot of time digging and in the water bowl before they lay even with constant 80 humidity but i know tree monitors are differnt, and also around 4am the humidity gets to like 90 to high 99 till 730 when the lights turn on(i keep the fogger on low all the time because they never go in the water bowl or burrow just stay high so that way its in the 80s up top), is that okay? my green trees are the only ones that i keep that high with misting and fogger the melinus(burrows in the 5050 sand dirt to sleep) and timor(sleeps in a sterlite tub filled with moss but tunnels and digs in the 5050 sand dirt) all day just get misted and theres stays 70s(mid day i mist in morning and night) to 90s(right after i mist) will glady change what needs to be changed

here is a pic of the cage too its 6ft tall 3ft wide 2ft deep(internal measurements) i have the wood to build them a 7.5ft tall 4ft wide 3ft deep but im building the melinus and timor cages first there already coming together and the timor tanks is only really a test to try the grout and stuff didnt need it but i can hand the old cage down to another one of my lizards and have all my monitors in custom build for them instead of transforming an entertainment peices or armoire, hopes this helps answer my ?s thanks
