You started a thread asking the exact same question a couple days ago. Same answers man! They don’t need your help getting through a shed. Just make sure the temps and humidity are squared away and pay DON’T peel away her skin before it’s ready to come off. This can/will cause injury.

No monitors like to be handled. It’s not in their nature, so there’s no "working" on that...

Dude I am glad you are concerned about your monitors heallth but you need to trusst your ability to care for her properly. There is a difference between concerned and paranoid... Just don’t peel it. Keep the humifity high and make sure she has something to rub on to remove the old skin.

It almost seems like you have never seen a reptile in shed before... /:

Not trying to be a smarty pants. I am glad you are asking questions but you question everything.. Like did you do research before acquiring the monitor?..

Yeah I understand but again.. trust yourself in that you are providing proper care to your monitor.

Again, all you need to know is that you have a big enough enclosure
basking spot - 130+
Warm side - 90
Cool side 78-80
12 inches (for right now) of a good soil/sand or coconut fiber/sand mixture (heard it works well too)
Humidity - 60-70
And feed mostly whole prey items inverts and mice/ rats, treats like hard boiled eggs or raw turkey is okay once in a while but not a staple and you are set.

Just provide all of that and you are set! And remember Savannahs are hardy animals.. So you don’t need to worry so much. Just give them what is listed above and trust yourself..

The BEST thing you can do for your monitor right now is get it out of that fish tank for life. Build a proper enclosure and let it grow up. A monitor in a fish tank is on death row.

Savannahmonitorlover, you ended up at the right place to get help. All the caresheets in the world can’t ensure one raises a monitor properly. I’ve yet to see an all-inclusive caresheet with accurate info. One keeper put together a website (www.savannahmonitor.org) that will ensure you’re on the right track, husbandry information wise and it will dispel some of the myths you may have been told in the beginning. This website is down right now, but keep checking until it’s back up. When it is, read it through and through.

You’ll be taking the steps to doing things right when you toss the fish tank and build an enclosure suited for a monitor. Again, fish tanks = death sentence to a monitor. Surely you read the part where it said 8ft x 4ft x 4ft enclosure?

Just something you might want to keep in mind, a healthy, young, growing monitor will pretty much be in a constant shed for the first couple years.

It’s normal if they don’t want to eat the first couple days after being transferred. They’ll need time to acclimate.

You’ll need to set up the enclosure properly and give her time to acclimate. Setting it up properly will involve offering multiple hides (to get away from you) in different temperature areas of the enclosure where she can feel secure and where you can’t see her. If it’s an empty 6x3x3 with a half log and a stick, she won’t feel very secure in that. Get some hollow logs and bury them in the dirt. Get a flat rock slab or two and set them on top of the dirt (you can one as a basking platform) so that she can dig under it or use it to bask. Throw some leaf litter on top of all that. She’ll then have options and will find many a secure spot where you can’t bug her. Besides using them as hides and basking spots, he’ll also use the stone slabs and other furnishings to help herself shed in some areas and they’ll also help keep her nails in good shape.
