Going to the vet! Well it turns out that Axel had a protozoa infection that has now been treated. Other than that the vet said he was very healthy. He was also given wormer just in case. The vet was impressed with how calm he was being, however, Axel was not a fan of being 100% restrained and hissed a lot.

Going to the vet! Are you located in the states? How much did the vet trip cost for you? Just curious.

Going to the vet! Don’t worry about spending money on wellness check ups. As long as they’re active and eating they’re best left alone. They have amazing immune systems as long as husbandry is ok.
Most medications given to reptiles by vets are actually made for mammals. The metabolism of mammals is much different than reptiles which makes dosing, etc., difficult.

Going to the vet! I live in northern ontario, and have a vet who comes to the house for a base rate of 75.00. Unless the monitor is sick, i believe you are doing more harm by bringing it in a vet.. the trip would be far to stressful as well as being man handled by a stranger. also they are typically cold and of course a monitor on a metal slab in a vets office is going to appear calm. because it is too cold and or scared to move.

Going to the vet! I make it a thing to take every new reptile I get to this vet. He has owned almost every type under the sun and he is not a vet that just sees reptiles as a side job. Reptiles and Avians are his focus. I only take a reptile once in their life though (unless they got sick). And I should have been more clear, he was plenty warm on the ride there but relaxed and when the office he was very curious and walked around the table, tongue was goin nuts from all the sents in there. The vet held him and he was fine, then the vet restrained him and he showed how much energy he really has. I was worried after that he was not going to trust me that day but he did.

Going to the vet! Good job, Dom. Doesn’t hurt to get a fresh import "checked out" by a vet. As you said, it will probably (hopefully) be the only time you ever need to take it to the vet office. They are hardy fellers and take care of themselves very well given the right conditions their immune system should fight off infections/bugs.
