 Sav questions

I want a Savannah monitor but i need some questions answered first. click here
( http://eastidaho.craigslist.org/fod/2950418536.html ) to see pics and stuff of her. She’s 2.5-3 feet long and these questions are for when she is full grown (idk if she is yet) so keep that in mind when u answer.

1. How deep should the water in her bowl be?

2. I want to feed her mice mainly but also minnows, insects, and crayfish (mostly mice but some weeks give her one of the other 3 things) . so how much of each of those would i have to feed her per week?

3. Would it be ok to let her go outside on hot days and swim in my little pond and dig holes outside as long as i watched her?

4. That’s my main questions cause i think i know the rest but if there are any tips you can give me that would be cool.

Click the link above that Mdf posted for you. Read it through and through.

Your diet = backwards. It should mainly be insects, crustaceans/arthropods, seafood. THEN mice every now and then maybe once a month. Make sure you have an enclosure set up and ready to go. Make sure you have a temperature gun (not a cheap temperature strip) so that you can accurately measure the surface temperatures at any time. Surface temps for the basking spot should be between 120-140 and the basking site should allow her to heat up her entire body... not just one big bulb that shines on 1/4 of her body. You need to get a bank of 3 low wattage halogen light bulbs (50w works) and set them up INSIDE the enclosure. The enclosure pictured in that craigslist ad is not suitable and that female monitor will be dead within a YEAR or TWO from now in that enclosure.

If you’re going to let her out on a hot day to romp around in your yard, pay attention to her and keep a look out for predators (birds of prey, cats, etc...).

Ok I could do those big roaches instead, but would I have to put the calcium an vitamin dust on them?

It means feed your insects healthy food. I buy water crystals and these orange cube things, plus i use potatoes, carrots, apples. If your insects arn’t healthy, how do you expect to have healthy lizard.
