 Hissing roaches?

The only cockroaches i can find near me are the giant hissing ones. Are those ok to feed a nile?

Nah, don’t get those hissers.

Look online, milkweed. Buy either Lobster roaches or Blaptica Dubia.

Those hissers don’t have a good meat/shell ratio and they breed slow. I’ve seen monitors refuse to eat them as well, spit them right out.

Lobsters and Dubia breed very fast, don’t hiss and they have a great meat/shell ratio... monitors LOVE them.

Get yourself a bulk batch and start breeding them.

I would, but i dont think the landlord or the wife would be down for that. About fiddler crabs tho, do u kill them first? Couldnt the monitor get pinched if not?

ive already asked the fiddler crab question and its a yes. if it fits in it’s mouth it can eat it. i don’t know about the pinching part though, i wouldn’t be too worried about it. i don’t think they can do very much harm

my Savanna & Male C.W.D’s love them hissers....
if you want a better meat ratio feed them the hissers
BEFORE they are adult sized or after a molt as their exoskeletons are not nearly as rigid then.

I have no trouble breeding Hissers, Dubia or Discoids

Actually hisser’s will be better for a nile in the long run cause there a much larger roach. You would go through twice as many B.Dubia roaches then hisser’s. Lobster roaches are small as well.

Would straight home from the pet store be ok? I dont really want to wait till theyre fat or molt as mentioned above. Roaches just chillin in my house for an extended period of time isnt gunna work

 Hissing roaches?

take a couple home & see how they like em..............
mine love the adults as well & have no trouble as to digestion
& if a monitor has no trouble eating & digesting crab & snail shells
then a hisser is no problem

& as MX Racer said hissers do get much larger up to 5"inches and a couple of them would be like feeding them 15 to 20 dubia, discoids or lobster roaches.

though it will get quite pricey$$ as adult hissers around here go for a few bucks each

Yea the hissers are two bucks each. They do have snails there. Any specific snail(s) not ok? They have the water snails for fish tanks. I havent priced them. Are they much nutrition? Sorry for the 3 part question
