Basking temp? Humidity level? Cage size?

Boiled eggs for savs are a treat not a staple diet.

Does his fecal matter have any signs of having worms?

Hard boiled eggs could be a once a month thing if at all. There is absolutely NO reason for anyone to have to feed their monitor hard-boiled eggs.
Let him acclimate to his new environment. It’s only been a week.

Worms would not keep a monitor from eating.

It won’t be in the soil. He will use the water bowl.

And please tell me you didn’t use potting soil as substrate. That looks like vermiculite in there...

They don’t alway’s poop in there water. Let him get sttled into his home, and leave him alone. Stop checking in on him every 30 min’s (just a guess). Keep putting a few cricket’s in here and there. If your temperature’s and humidity are correct as you say, he should come around pretty quick.

I also got my Sav from LLL. Mine took about 2 weeks before he started eating well. I had originally thought the eggs were an OK thing to feed them on occasion but it’s really not that great for them. Your better off sticking to the crickets. What I did that seemed to get him started on eating the crickets was take some and throw them in a baggy in the freezer just to let them die off then take them out and put them in a shallow feeding dish inside the enclosure. You can position them so that you know if he has touched them at all so you wont be stuck wondering. After he starts eating you can stop feeding him the dead ones that won’t run away. Make sure you dust with Calcium + D3 supplements occasionally also. The biggest thing is to just give him time and space.

The soil is garden top soil but i didn’t have enough so i put some more top soil in but i noticed the vermiculite too and was worried but is that bad?

and thanks Adam your reply really helped, cleared things up. i was wondering why he wasnt eating and im gonna try out your technique with the frozen crickets sounds like it might work

and there has been 1 poop in the water the 2nd day because lllreptile fed him before they shipped out

yes the vermiculite is bad. Get rid of it asap. You want a product called "black earth" made by vigoro, or just normal dirt from a back yard.

You want him to be huge? Sounds like you want a monitor for the wrong reasons. and that enclosure is only good for 6 months you know that?

And you can find black earth at home depot, walmart, most garden centers etc. mix it with childrens washed play sand, also at home depot. The soil is only like $2.75 a bag, and the sand is about $7 a bag. you’ll probably need a few of each

it could be female and only get to 3 feet. The impression i’m under is you have the monitor for sheer novelty. When are you planning to build the new enclosure? What’s your budget? It can’t be built like the current one. You need a solid 2x4 full frame. enough to hold at least 4-500lbs of dirt and soil. can’t use plexi glass as the monitor will get through that in no time.

Look at Aragan’s cage. That’s a nice Savannah set up. It’s on the cages 101 post down below.

 New sav not eating

So it died this morning and im gonna guess it was from the wrong soil.. :(

Its really upsetting, but here he is

So i completely emptied my cage washed all the rocks and shoveled out all of the dirt and vacuumed what I couldnt get with the shovel. After that Put down trash bags and stapled them to the floor and walls so they wouldnt rott and then i went out and bout some topsoil.

This is what i ended up getting cuz neither home depot nor lowes had black earth by vigoro.

I put all the soil in, bout 1 1/2ft deep and put all the rocks and hides back in.

I want to give it another shot with an older bosc so it would be more sturdy less stressed and have a bigger appetite.
Advice and thoughts as to how he died
thanks

Wait, this is the second monitor of yours to have died in a few weeks?

This is going to sound harsh, but give it a while until you get another. At the end of the day, these monitors are living creatures and you are going through them faster than I go through food! I’m sorry, but it is obvious that you aren’t ready for a Sav yet - I agree, it is down to luck with WC specimens, but you clearly aren’t in the right state of mind to order another for it to simply die again and then the process keeps in repeating.

If you are adamant on a monitor, get a CB one... They are a tad more forgiving.

But don’t rush into getting another, I would empty all the cage out, get new soil, new rocks etc and start from scratch - stop putting the new monitors in what will be a coffin.

It doesn’t come down to luck with WC sav’s. I have 2 in one set up doing awsome, 1 in another doing awsomeo and 3 in another doing awsome. It’s going to come down to your husbandry , or you stressing it out to much yourself. I think you should buy a ackie monitor cause there the closest to being industructable for cbb monitor’s and can almost handle any condition. You would be able to go through more trial and error with one till you have the basic’s down about monitor’s.

Plus the sav wouldn’t have died that fast just from a little vermiculite in it’s soil, there would have to be other husbandry error’s. I think before you get another monitor, you need to do some serious research on monitor’s in general cause lot’s of them have almost the same need’s. Once you have had a monitor for a while under the correct care it almsot come’s to you like an instinct the next time you try to set one up. It was so much easier for me to set up all my sav set up’s, then to set up one little gargoyle gecko, cause gecko’s are out of the norm for me.
